Jack's POV
I groaned in pain, slowly opening my eyes. My body ached all over, as if the same truck had hit me 100 times over. A warm liquid was trickling down the right side of my head; and where this liquid was coming from stung incredibly badly. I couldn't tell which way was up and which way was down, but I assumed I was on the floor. My fingers gripped the flooded, broken up floors.
I groaned once more. I was finally able to open my eyes without being blinded by the light. It was like the sun was right on my face, and to be completely honest... it was. Which made no sense because just a moment ago the world was ending, and now it felt like it was just a normal winter day in Florida.
As the sun burned through my pale skin, I did my best to crawl to shade. Dragging my stomach and knees through sharp and jagged objects. Despite how torn my clothes already were, they did the impossible and ripped themselves even more.
The second my fingertips were engulfed by the shade, a rush of adrenaline coursed throughout my veins, forcing me to crawl the rest of the way. I was currently under a cave of rubble, that had somehow managed to sustain itself. It was large enough to fit 5 more people other than myself, but not exactly tall enough to stand in.
I mustered up the strength to at least get off my stomach, and then sat against the wall of my new 'home.' Despite the original doubts I had about it, being that it was rent free, it was surprisingly cozy. Sure, the floors were in tatters, but I didn't mind. The cool air conditioning was just too good to pass up.
"Man..." I began to think out loud. "How long have I been out...?" My memory was still slightly foggy, but I was pretty sure the asteroid hit sometime around lunch. Just thinking about lunch was making me realize how hungry I was. So hungry I could vo-
I promptly hurled over and vomited on the flooded floors of my home. I quickly backed away from the vomit, disgusted by it. I banged the back of my head into the back wall of my cave, causing me to clutch it. I slowly slouched down the walls, finally ending up with my back on the floor again.
"I want a Little Bites..." I would always just eat those mini muffins for breakfast instead of eating an actual meal. I was lazy like that. In fact, I was contemplating whether or not I should just stay here and wait for someone to find me. Fortunately, or unfortunately, the prospect of never being found was nerve wracking for me. Thus, sitting idly was not very ideal for me.
By now my body wasn't as sore, and I was able to move most of my body parts without immediately wincing in pain. So I stood up. And hit my head once more. "Shit!" I cussed in pain, clutching my head in pain. I slowly wobbled my way out of my den, bidding it farewell for now.
I squinted my eyes so much they were basically just closed. But it was the substitute for sunglasses, as well as my normal prescription glasses. "Well that's ironic." The sight before me was best described with those words. An asteroid had just hit the Earth, destroying everything in it's path. Debris and rubble could be seen for miles, if you could see for miles, and yet... it was beautiful. The sky was the bluest I'd ever seen, there was just the right amount of clouds, the sun was shining, and the water was shimmering and glistening. Any trees that were left were gently blown by the wind (and sure there were a couple lizards being blown through the air, but that's besides the point), any birds that weren't killed by stray rocks and chunks of Apophis were flying around.
I wasn't able to see all of this because I had woken up on a high vantage point, it was because the impact of the asteroid had flattened everything in its path. Leaving only pieces of buildings and parks all over. It didn't help that I was in the Florida Keys, where water was everywhere. The entirety of Key Largo had been flooded and destroyed, and I thought I could see a few bodies lying around. My eyes naturally drifted towards them out of curiosity, but I really didn't want to see them. So I did my best to ignore them.
