***(Cory's POV)***
After breakfast, the air in the room feels much calmer. We sat and had a nice breakfast, no more tears or deep talks. We both go to sit down on the couch to start the job search with my laptop in front of us, and instantly I can feel her start to take really deep breaths. "Are you okay? Cause if you're not ready for this then we don't have to do this today."
"It's just been a while since I've taken real time to myself and viewed my future in any kind of serious way. I guess I've kind of been avoiding it." She looks at me with a half smile.
"Well it's a good thing you don't have to do this alone." I smile back at her.
I open up my laptop and immediately am faced with the background of my computer screen. It's an image of me playing with my niece, Brooke, in my sister's backyard. I smile at the memory of us that pops into my head. That little girl is probably one of the best things in this world. I don't know what I would've done without her joy and my sister's support in my life.
"Who's that?" This question pulls me out of my thoughts, reminding me that there is in fact a person next to me.
"That is my niece, Brooke. Or as I call her, my angel in disguise." I giggle a little at that nickname knowing my sister would punch me on the arm for saying that.
"She's cute. Do you see her often?" Sara's head is cocked in a way that makes her seem legitimately interested.
"I used to see her a lot more, when I had to rely on my sister, but I still try and visit as much as I can." I try and remember the last time I saw them both and realize it's been over a month. Shit. I can't believe I let myself go that long. Guess it's the price I pay for getting out in the world on my own.
"That's sweet. They're both lucky to have you in their lives." She has this wide smile on her face.
"It's definitely more the other way around but I'll take it." We both laugh as I finally open google to start searching for jobs. "Is there any chance you have a resume somewhere on the internet, either in an email account or something like that?"
"Last time I made a resume was high school, so definitely not." She looks down at the floor as if ashamed of this fact.
"That's fine we can just make you one before we start the search so we know what our options are."
"Alright, but just a warning it's not anything special."
"It's not necessarily the content and experience that matters, at the end of the day it's how you present it that makes a difference." I open up a document just to start getting information down before I organize it. "Okay, firstly- education."
"High School Diploma, and a Bachelor's degree." She sighs a little.
"Okay, now you realize you are going to have to finally admit what your degree is in, right?"
"Fine. Business. I have a bachelor's in business. Never got my masters since my flow of income and general support financially had gone away by the time I graduated."
"I never saw you as the business type. What made you choose that?"
"I had always wanted to own my own place that could become a safe haven for other people. Was never sure what that would look like or how it would make me any profit but I just wanted to be someone's savior, y'a know?" A little smile peeked out onto her face and I could tell she truly meant it.
"I know what you mean. Having a safe place to land is hard to find. Hopefully you'll get there someday. But for now we are just gonna have to start from the bottom and work from there."
