But I'm cooking

The dull ache in Morgan's lower back was finally winning over his focus on the half built drone scraps that he'd pulled out of a burning garbage can from the alley he'd woken up in this morning. Morgan groans and pushes the tech forward on the bio hazard of a desk he keeps in the coin living area of his room, stretching his legs out for a second deciding that maybe he should take a break. Then his thoughts get interrupted by an angry grumble followed by many loud and concerning clangs coning from the kitchen.
Gathering himself he begins to make his way to the aforementioned walking god complex, "Alex if you burn down my apartment I'm not gonna be able to get the safety deposit from any of my tenants and I'll have to broker a new peace negotiation for the alien species who were nearly usurper by the rat people in the walls after they moved out of the vent system."
Having just turned the corner he hears the news on the battery radio that's perched on their fridge, and then the disappointment sunk to the pit of his stomach. Alex has fresh produce finely chopped and segregated on a chopping block and some undetermined alien meat frying which Morgan was at first apprehensive of when Alex first introduced it to his pallet but has now grown to appreciate.
"I was just about to add in these vegetables and they would have been done at the same time as the Mexican rice that's finishing off in the oven, but nooo of course 'someone' had to resurrect the friendly five," he grumpily pouted. "Stupid Ohio."
"Why do you have to kill them again?" Morgan rolls his eyes as he begins to wonder how this became such a regular phrase for himself that he has such indifference to his best friends murderous tendencies, "like is there any chance you could not kill them?" His voice goes up a bit at the end as he knows it's not a talking point that's worked for him in the past.
"I have to kill them on principle," Alex turns to face Morgan closing the distance. "Plus's you know that if the glogdarts don't get eaten immediately after they're prepared they regenerate their bodies and mind and and try to-"
"Conquer the world, yes I know." Morgan finishes in exasperation, "why don't you just chuck everything in and then come back after you kill them?"
A little timer goes off next to the oven causing Alex to dart back over, reset then aggressively stir the pot. "Because if I don't keep stirring this every three minutes they burn, their gravity is soooo much lighter that ours and so they stick, and they flake, and they shrivel, and taste horrible if you leave them. But I can't let them live they'll think I've gone soft." Alex says this but adds the vegetables to the pan.

Scratching the back of his head Morgan tries to think of a solution for no reason other than to have this conversation end here rather than dragging in for the rest of the week.
"What if I," he sighs. "What if I finish the cooking while you kill them or whatever and come back when it's done."
Alex winces, "before my lair was destroyed you were living off of ramen what if you're cooking ineptitude takes over and," he gestures to the pan. "I don't know makes it taste bad."

Morgan now feeling offended crossed the kitchen, snatches the spatula, and shoves Alex to the fridge. "Fix your problem that you," he points an accusatory finger at Alex "caused for no reason and I'll do this and you won't complain or I'm going to call your mom and tell her that we got married without inviting her."

Alex now with some panic in his eyes hurriedly shows Morgan how to set the timer and rushes out of the apartment before his best friend can get a word in.

A roughly an hour that Morgan had been left in the kitchen unattended by Alex. Morgan had decided to completely disregard all instructions except for when to stir, he had unceremoniously dumped all of the vegetables in together and decided to get back at the little comment that Alex had made about his cooking abilities by using the flavouring packet as seasoning and putting the pre-measured ingredients that Alex had put in a bowl to the side. Noting how long it had been Morgan decided to make a loaf of bread in the bread maker he'd been gifted from his sister after she received two as gifts at her wedding. He'd decided at the last second before he'd closed the lid on the maker to chuck Alex's seasoning into the mixture, just to see what would happen. The radio was now explaining the defeat of the friendly five which is now more like the traumatised two as it seemed Alex was drawing it out, maybe ge digit about the cooking but Morgan surely hadn't. He seemed to be wrapping up though just as the meat was turning from its original yellow hue to a violet purple that he was more familiar with bf now he felt more settled that the smell matched its familiar component visually.

Morgan was just about to respond to the timer going off again when Alex literally popped suddenly into existence in the kitchen a fraction of a millimetre in front of where Morgan had just turned scaring the absolute shit out of him.
"Wholy fucking shit man don't do that to me." Alex was calmly removing the pan from the heat and placing it on the counter as the radio seemed to have caught up and exclaimed that Alex disappeared without warning. "What did you do?" Alex seemed annoyed but not angry as he played the food.
"What do you mean 'what did I do?' I cooked the food like you said" Morgan defensively responded as he considered maybe adding mysterious dollar store ramen flavouring to alien meat that he hadn't investigated the chemically composition of was possibly a bad idea.
Alex gesturing to the plates in an exasperated manner, "why does this smell better than anything I've ever made and what is that thing?" He turns to the bread maker, "and why have I never seen it before?"
Morgan relieved explains the bread maker as he carries the plates to the living room and flicks on the tv. "You took too long and I got board so I improvised."

They ate in silence and Alex told Morgan that if he never cooks for him again he'll never forgive him.

Hey so this is just a one shot I am working on a bigger more dramatic fic of these two but I just wanted to put this out there and see how it's received. I just typed this up on my phone so please feel free to correct any grammar or punctuation mistakes I made as there are probably a few because I can't be bothered rereading and editing my work. Lmk if you are interested in me making more but anyway thank you for reading 😁
