The loud sound of raindrops against the window woke Hazel from her sleep. When she opened her eyes, blinking a few times before letting out a yawn, she felt a sudden. sharp ache in her chest. It was as if a lightning bolt pierced through her chest.

The feeling of realization.

She looked around and found the other side of the bed empty. She quickly pulled the blanket closer to her naked body, her breath catching in her throat with sudden unease.

Nothing that happened last night was a fever dream. It was undeniably real.

All of it.

Covering her face with the palms of her hands, Hazel groaned loudly. She had slept with her best friend's best friend. That was beyond messy. That was a whole other level of messy.

What the hell did she do?!  What the hell was she thinking?!

Before Hazel could properly think about the whole situation, she could hear Pierre's voice and footsteps getting closer.

"Yes, thank you very much. I'll be in touch," Pierre said into his phone as he entered the room.  Upon spotting Hazel awake, their eyes met instantly. Hazel didn't know what was going on behind those ocean-blue eyes. Pierre was dressed in a white T-shirt and jeanshe had probably been awake for quite some time.

"Again, thank you, Mrs. Richardson. I appreciate it very much," Pierre nodded, ending the phone call. He let out a sigh, his eyes still locked with Hazel's.

"Who was that?"

"That was Janice Richardson. Addy's new lawyer," Pierre responded, moving towards the bed. Before taking a seat on its edge, he cleared his throat and asked, "May I?"

"Of course," Hazel nodded, instinctively drawing the blanket closer to her body. After all, she was naked. Not that he would see anything he hadn't seen before.  "When did you have time to find a lawyer? What time is it?"

"It's eight o'clock. I've made some phone calls, and she seemed to be the best fit. She specializes in domestic abuse," Pierre explained, his gaze focused on the floor.

And there was the uncomfortable lump in Hazel's throat once again. A lawyer specializing in domestic abuse. It all felt too ugly to be true, and Hazel struggled to comprehend how this could be happening to her closest friend.

"Did you hear from her parents?" Hazel asked, fighting the urge to rip her cuticles. It was one of her worst habits whenever she got nervous.

"They called me back. They'll be visiting her this afternoon," Pierre sighed, and Hazel could sense the emotions he was concealing. Suddenly, he started avoiding eye contact with her.

"You have a weird feeling about their visit, right?" Hazel asked. Pierre turned his head to Hazel, nodding.

"How do you know?"
