She grabs my collar and yanks me out from the burnt-out hole Marney had taken us to.
I scream as she hurls me through the air. I hit the ground hard and roll, the breath rushing out of my lungs. I gasp for breath as a foot slams into my tummy.
"Little Jacob, I wish Ven had introduced us properly," she talks down to me. "I didn't need him to, but it would have been nice to greet you properly."
I clutch my tummy, whimpers leaving my mouth without me wanting them to.
"I've been watching you, you know," she bends down, her face right next to mine, "you're pathetic. A coward. You could make poisonous plants cover this whole country and do away with it all. You could have killed the Kings at any time. And." She punches me. "You." She punches me again. "Didn't." Her fist slams into my face.
She stands over me.
She's right.
You're weak.
You'll never help Ven.
I start to sob.
"Are you crying?" She laughs, the shrill tones filling my ears. "Die."
Her eyes glow red, her palm facing me.
Die here, little one.
Please, no!
You defied us.
I didn't mean it...
This is the sentence.
I don't want to.
Die, pitiful creature.
Die and join your horse.
I clench my teeth.
"Don't talk about my horse!" I scream, I slam my palm into the floor. An oak tree bursts out of the ground beneath Mel, catching her and carrying her into the air.
I look up, her palm has gone dark.
But her eyes.
They glare down at me, they're unnatural red glow sends shivers down my spine.
"This should be fun!" She dives down, her wings bent back.
I slide my foot across the ground, black brambles sprout up covering me in a dense, protective layer.
With a flash of red the brambles catch fire.
I go to slam my hand on the floor.
My arm won't move.
A putrid smell reaches my nose.
I look down in horror to see a hole burnt through my shoulder.
I scream in pain.
A hand reaches through the brambles, hard fingers dig into the still smouldering hole.
I scream more, I can feel my throat tearing.
She slams me to the ground.
"Colour me disappointed," she says lazily, two fingers point at my chest, her eyes red glow intensifies. "Just die."
I screw my eyes shut.
My breath races out of my lungs faster than I can get it in.
This is it.
I am going to die.
*Ven*
"Ven..."
Hands weakly shake me.
