A web of deception

Chapter 3

Lilah was a freelance writer with a singular goal in mind; she simply desperately wanted to make ends meet and make something of her life. Unfortunately, Lilah was too wrapped up in her own misfortunes to realize that her parents were in the way of all her dreams. As a result, her ambition was overshadowed by her family.

When she was younger, Lilah had always looked up to her parents. They were affluent, educated individuals that had provided her with everything she could've ever wanted: a nice home, a decent education, a good career prospects, and financially stability. But it wasn't until Lilah was a young adult that she found out her parents had an addiction to drugs and alcohol.

In a single day, her financial security was snatched away. Within weeks, food, rent, and basic necessities were no longer being taken care of. Lilah had to become the adult of the household since her parents couldn't be themselves.

Though it was initially a difficult situation, Lilah was determined to make the best of it. She used her ambition, tenacity, and skills to make a name for herself as a freelance writer. Every morning she would wake up early, do her best work and then hit the pavement again in hopes of finding new and better assignments.

But despite her best efforts, Lilah was still struggling to make ends meet. The little money she occasionally received from her parents was quickly squandered on drugs and alcohol, leaving her more desperate and worried than ever.

As days passed, Lilah's bills, rent, and other costs piled up. The stress of her slim financial situation was starting to take a toll on her body and mind. She was exhausted more often than not, and had developed a sort of numbness to it all.

In between work and fretting, Lilah would take a few moments out of her day to devote time to recreational activities. But no matter what she did, the thought of her parents kept coming back to her in the strangest of moments.
