Lilah had been struggling with anorexia for most of her teen years. It was a symptom- the symptom of a much larger underlying problem, but she dare not speak of it. She was a serial killer, hunting down bad people and killing them. This wasn't something she thought of lightly- it was something she took seriously, and she always made sure that the people she killed deserved it.
Though she had no interest in stealing, she recently found herself in a position where she needed to: she had stolen a substantial amount of money from the bank three days before, and if her parents found out, they'd blow it all on drugs and alcohol. She had to find somewhere safe to store it, preferably away from her home.
Then it hit her: Ethan Montgomery, her enemy from childhood. His parents were rather well off, and if she could convince them to help, she was certain they would.
It was a huge risk, but it seemed to be the only option. So, the next morning she got up early and walked the five miles to Ethan's house. While on the way, she rehearsed her plea- it had to be perfect for them to agree. She had thought of everything; what to say, what to wear, how to act, and so on.
Once she arrived, she was surprised by the size and beauty of the house. It had to have been two stories high, and it was a deep burgundy with white trim- clearly the owners had money. She nervously knocked on the door and waited.
To her surprise, it was Ethan who opened the door. He seemed to be surprised to see her, but he kept his composure and simply said, 'What do you want?'
Lilah swallowed her fear and straightened up, before saying in a steady voice, 'I need your parents' help. I need them to hide some money I stole from the bank three days ago. If my parents find out, they'll spend it all in drugs and alcohol. Please, will you help me?'
Ethan was taken aback, and it was clear he wasn't prepared to be asked such a unusual request. He stared at her for a moment before finally responding, 'I'll need to talk to my parents and see what they say.'
He invited her inside and then left to go find his parents. She waited nervously in the living room, but it wasn't long before Ethan returned with his mother and father.
They introduced themselves and then Lilah repeated her desperate request. To her surprise, they seemed rather understanding. His mother said, 'We understand how difficult it must be for you, and we want to help. We can hide the money in a safe in our basement. It'll be safe there, and no one but us will know about it.'
Lilah exhaled in relief. 'Thank you so much. I will never forget this and I promise to pay you back one day. I promise.'
The Montgomerys agreed to her terms and they directed her to the safe in the basement. She soon found the money safe and secure, and it was all she could do to not break into tears. She thanked the Montgomerys profusely before she left.
The guilt weighed heavily on her shoulders as she left the Montgomery mansion, and as she walked down the street, she was already planning her next move: how to pay them back and when to make her next kill. It was a difficult decision, to be sure, but she knew she had made the right one.
