"Tay, love, gotta get up. You don't want to be late to hopefully your last doctors appointment," Travis said while rubbing Taylor's shoulder. She happened to be just about 40 weeks pregnant with their first son and right now it's just them playing the waiting game for him to make his arrival.
Taylor groaned and opened her eyes. Travis helped her out of bed so she could use the bathroom and get ready. At this point in her pregnancy, the only thing she finds even remotely comfortable to wear are sweatpants and a maternity t-shirt. She does very minimal makeup and then starts to head down the stairs where Travis was waiting for her. They both walk out the door and head to her doctor's office.
They were called back pretty quick so they didn't have to wait very long. Taylor got changed into the gown they provided and lied on the bed.
"Hello Taylor! How are we feeling?" Her doctor had asked as soon as she walked into the room.
"The same as last week," Taylor said.
"Well, we are going to check to see if you have dilated any, and hope that this little man has decided he is ready to come out." The doctor said and checked Taylor. She looked up at Taylor and smiled,
"Well, looks like you are starting to dilate. You are only 1 centimeter but it's a start. Who knows, you could go into labor today!"
Taylor breathed a sigh of relief, knowing she would hopefully be holding her baby boy at last. They finished up her appointment with a simple ultrasound and her doctor telling her ways to induce labor at home. They got their pictures of their son and left the office.
As soon as they got home Taylor went straight to the couch. She couldn't be on her feet too long before they start to hurt. Travis walked over and sat next to her.
"Travis, I'm scared. What if our son doesn't want anything to do with me or hates me. What if we don't make it to the hospital in time when I really do go into labor. What if-" Taylor was stopped by Travis holding her to his chest, knowing she was getting herself all worked up.
"Taylor, first off our son isn't going to hate you. He's probably gonna be a mama's boy. And honey, we will make it to the hospital in time. We don't know how long your labor will last, but I will make sure we get there in time. Stop getting yourself all worked up with all the what if's, lets think about how you're about to bring our son into the world, where we'll be able to give him all the cuddles and love we can. Think about all the firsts we get to watch him experience," Travis had told her and was rubbing her back.
"You're right. I don't know why I started getting all worked up. I'm sorry," she told him.
"Don't apologize, you're allowed to feel that way, I just don't want you to get too worked up and stressed," Travis told her.
The rest of the day, they had tried everything they could to induce labor, well everything Taylor wanted to do. So far, nothing had worked. It reminded Taylor of that episode of Friends where Rachel was trying to induce her labor. Taylor kept telling herself that their son will come when he is ready.
As the day came to an end, Taylor could feel herself feeling different. She had been thinking, and knows her son is going to make an appearance here soon. She had been felling small contractions but nothing too bad. Taylor and Travis decided to go to bed a little earlier than normal, just so that can get a little extra sleep. That didn't last very long for Taylor, as she had felt her first stronger contraction. She sat up as best as she could and waited for it to end. She started a timer on her phone to see how far apart they are in hopes that she is finally in labor. As soon as she feels another one she stops the timer and wakes Travis up.
"Travis, wake up," Taylor said for the third time while shoving him almost off the bed. Travis sat up as quick as he could.
"I'm up baby, are you okay?" He asks not fully aware of his surrounding.
