It's not like he wasn't a great boyfriend.

It's not like he ignored me, or hit me, or anything.

But it's just the small things.

It's just the small things.

-

"Julie, it's okay. It's okay!" Flynn is putting on a brave face.

"it's not." Luke says.

Flynn turns to stare at him, but he's already walking away. "wha- WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE MAKING HER FEEL BETTER NOT SHITTIER!" She yells after him, then turns around and hugs me. "It'll be okay. Eventually." She says, and I nod into her shoulder. "He wasn't worth it anyway. He wasn't worth it."

I know that.

Does it hurt less now?

No.

-

"Julie. Wake up."

I jolt awake.

It's only a dream. It's not real.

It feels real.

I need to clear my head.

The front door is unlocked. Weird.

I push the handle down and step out into the cool night air.

Luke's car is on, and someone is in the driver's seat. The headlights are blinding, I can't make out the figure. The car's engine starts up and it begins to drive away. The door to the studio is open too, so I finish walking down the path and slip inside. Luke is going to shit himself, he loves that car so much.

It's still in the studio. Quiet.

I thought Luke would be in here.

He's not. And weirdly, neither is his guitar.

A sudden pang of dread hits me in the stomach.

Hurriedly, I walk out of the studio, shutting the door behind me, and walk back into the house, locking the front door. I walk down the hallway to the guys' rooms.

Luke's door is open.

The dread turns into knowing as I look into the empty room. The posters are gone. The bed is made. There are no clothes on the floor, or in the closet.

He's gone.

-

Flynn and Carrie are in my room.

Soon they'll disappear too.

Everyone I've loved has left me.

Dad. Mum. Carlos. Luke.

So soon it'll be them too.

"Julie." Carrie says, her voice quiet. "Look at me. We won't leave. Julie."

But it's no use, because I'm cursed, I will be alone forever.

That's just the way it is.
