Neteyam huffed, throwing yet another woven blanket across the hut carelessly. The tangled mess of fabrics and pillows was just that; a mess. So untidy and unfit that the omega could barely look at it without wanting to scream or burst into tears. It seemed that no matter what he did to weave and twist the material into a comforting nest it always came out a complete disaster.

The harsh bite of incompetence nipped at his self esteem. It was the same feeling he got when learning how to wield a bow for the first time or follow tracks. Inevitably he was awful at these tasks during the first attempts but Neteyam had always pushed through and dealt with these feelings by obsessively practicing till he was successful. Till he saw his father's proud smile or passing remarks about his mighty warrior.

Naturally, Neteyam figured he could approach building a nest in the same way.

However, an hour of scavenging in their shared hut for materials and wrestling with fabric till it was nothing more than a ball of soft cloth had pushed Neteyam past his limit. This was nothing like learning to hunt. Each fabric had to be the right weight and texture but every piece that satisfied these means did not have the proper essence. He needed materials that held the same musky scent of his mate but it seemed Kxolo was always on top of the laundry.

A useful quality that had the omega infuriated with him.

Neteyam felt lost. Where was his teacher? Wasn't someone supposed to show him how to do this? He idly wondered if his parents were simply waiting to teach him this skill later down the road when they anticipated his mating. Now, he was struggling through the task alone with a mate that couldn't bother to leave one piece of clothing with his scent on it for Neteyam to enjoy.

The eldest Sully dug through one of the baskets again and was pleasantly surprised to come across a navy poncho. He ran the smooth leather material along his fingertips. The material caressed his skin perfectly, lighting a flame of optimism in the omega. Bringing the material to his nose, that hope died instantly.

He hissed, throwing the scentless poncho to the ground.

Tears gathered at the corners of Neteyam's eyes but he fought them back with a stubborn intensity. His frustration quickly swallowed sadness and had Neteym chucking the first fabric his fingers touched across the room angrily. It was only when the omega heard the soft sound of the fabric hitting skin that he looked up and saw his alpha standing in the doorway.

Hands now clutching the poncho he stared back at his omega with a raised eyebrow. For a moment Neteyam considered apologizing but the burning irritation that bubbled relentlessly fiercely drowned out other concerns. Instead, he simply crossed his arms and glared back at the alpha, channeling all of his annoyance and frustrations at the taller male.

"Not my color, huh?" Kxolo attempted to joke, gesturing to the poncho but he was only rewarded with a small huff. Neteyam's angry scowl only translated into a persistent pout that had the alpha holding back a deep chuckle. He was tempted to pinch those soft cheeks fondly but then he noticed the bundle of fabrics beneath Neteyam's feet. Realization dawned.
