The day at Hogwarts had ended, leaving Y/N  with a sense of fatigue.

She trudged through the dimly lit corridors of the Slytherin common room and headed towards her dormitory.

The quietude of the common room was a relief after the relentless tension she'd experienced throughout the day, but as she entered her dorm, that sense of peace was fleeting.

Her roommates were busy discussing their first day back, but their chatter ceased when they noticed Y/N's arrival.

Their inquisitive looks weighed heavily on her, and she could sense that the rumors regarding her day with Mattheo Riddle had already started to circulate.

Not wanting to dwell on it, Y/N changed into her pajamas and climbed into her bed, pulling the curtains around her four-poster closed.

Sleep, she hoped, would provide a reprieve from the tumultuous start to the school year.

However, the morning came too soon, and Y/N found herself back in the whirlwind of classes.

Her first class, Potions, was an art she excelled in.

She meticulously followed Professor Slughorn's instructions, ensuring that the Draught of Living Death potion she was brewing turned out perfectly.

The sense of accomplishment was short-lived when she noticed Mattheo Riddle watching her from across the room.

"Something on your mind, Riddle?" she challenged, irritated by his presence.

He raised an eyebrow, feigning innocence. "Just appreciating a fellow student's proficiency, Berkshire."

Y/N's glare intensified as she turned her attention back to her work.

But the brewing potion was delicate, and one wrong move could ruin it.

Mattheo's incessant scrutiny made her jittery.

In her attempt to ignore him, she accidentally added a few too many drops of asphodel, causing the potion to take on a subtle green tint.

Her disappointment was evident, and Mattheo couldn't resist a smug smile.

"A minor slip-up, Berkshire. The best of us make mistakes." he laughed.

She clenched her jaw, refusing to let him see her frustration.

The class continued, but her confidence had been shaken.

The next class was Transfiguration, a subject she was not so passionate about.

Professor McGonagall was renowned for her expertise and high expectations.

As Y/N entered the classroom, she tried to put the previous class behind her, but the sight of Mattheo waiting for her sent her irritation levels soaring.

When Professor McGonagall introduced a challenging transformation exercise, Y/N's patience was already worn thin.

She paired up with one of her friends, but Mattheo, predictably, strolled over to their group.

"Mind if I join?" he asked, flashing a mischievous grin.

Y/N's friend hesitated, clearly uncomfortable with Mattheo's presence, but Y/N, not wanting to make a scene, begrudgingly nodded.

As they attempted to transform a teacup into a hedgehog, the tension between Y/N and Mattheo reached its peak.

Mattheo deliberately disrupted their spellwork, causing their teacup to turn into a chaotic mess of feathers and spines.

Y/N's patience snapped.

"Are you incapable of doing anything without causing trouble?"

He feigned innocence, though his eyes sparkled with mischief. "

My dear Berkshire, life is far too dull without a little chaos."

Their argument continued throughout the class, and Professor McGonagall had to step in, reprimanding them for disrupting the lesson.

The duel of words between Y/N and Mattheo had reached a new level of hostility.

Charms class was no different.

Mattheo took pleasure in correcting her wand movements, fueling her annoyance further.

"Class dismissed." McGonagall said.

Y/N picked up her stuff and headed to her next class DADA. She was lucky to get a break from Riddle but saw him walk in 5 minutes late to the class smelling like he just smoked a whole pack of cigs.

Y/N was brimming with anger.  She had reached her limit. She couldn't stand having almost all of her classes with this dumbass.

The moment Professor Snape announced a practical duel, Y/N couldn't contain her frustration any longer.

"I can't imagine anyone wanting to partner with Riddle, but I'm not surprised." she whispered to Pansy.

Mattheo shot her a withering look. "I assure you, Berkshire, I'm not thrilled at the prospect either." he said sitting down at the table next to her with Theodore Nott and her brother Enzo.

"Y/N You're going to duel against Mattheo." Snaps demanded.

"What? That's not fair Professor!" She said in defense.

"Do you want to get Detention Miss Berkshire?" he asked coldly. Y/N sighed and looked at Mattheo who had a smug smile on his face.

I hate that boy.

The duel began, and their spells crackled in the air, each more intense and aggressive than the last.

Their classmates watched in shock as the  rivalry played out before their eyes.

Professor Snape called a halt to the duel, citing their inability to work together.

"Berkshire, Riddle, perhaps spending detention together will teach you the importance of teamwork."

Y/N was furious, but as the classroom emptied, she had no choice but to follow Mattheo to the library where they would serve their detention.

As they sat in the silent, dimly lit library, the only sounds were the ticking of the ancient clock and the soft rustling of pages as they sorted and organized old texts. The atmosphere was thick with tension, and neither of them spoke for what felt like an eternity.

Finally, Y/N couldn't take the silence any longer. "Well, Riddle, isn't this a delightful way to spend our evening?"

Mattheo shot her a sharp look. "Don't act as though you're thrilled about it, Berkshire."

Their exchange was followed by another oppressive silence until Y/N's curiosity got the best of her

"You know, Riddle, I can't quite figure you out. You're nothing like the rumors suggest. Why do you always have to be such an insufferable presence?"

Mattheo turned to her, his expression surprisingly contemplative. "Perhaps, Berkshire, the real question is, why do you always have to be so antagonistic?"

The library's ancient clock ticked on, the minutes passing in silence as they both contemplated the unspoken challenge in each other's eyes.

Their first day back at Hogwarts had been marked by fiery confrontations and unexpected tension.

Y/N and Mattheo, seemingly destined to be enemies, were now stuck together in detention.
