"Ugh turn off" I say thinking my alarm will answer.
*ring ring*
I toss and turn waiting and waiting for that annoying noise to stop.
"OH MY GOD SHUT UP!"
Finally deciding to wake up I turn off my alarm and the aroma of smoke hits my nose.
"What the hell" I say confused.
"All residents please exit your houses" I hear on the other side of my door.
Getting up from my bed, immediately feeling the cold air on my exposed body.
"This really wasn't a good time to sleep half naked" I say to myself grabbing my phone and putting on my robe and slippers heading outside.
"What's going on?" I ask my next door neighbor Cathy.
She's an older lady, really nice the nicest person I've met since I've moved here.
"I think apartment C caught on fire."
"Hmm well I'm going back inside. Work again. Have a nice day Cathy"
"You too Lani"
As I walk back into my apartment I catch a glance of someone unfamiliar. I must've been staring for a while, because Cathy was right behind me.
"Oh, that's our new neighbor, I forgot his name you know how old I am these days. Maybe you should introduce yourself sometime?" Cathy suggested.
"Well he is kinda cute" I giggle as I walk back into my apartment.
*ring ring*
A notification from tinder pops up.
"I forgot I had this app. Hmm new message."
"Hey I saw your profile and I'd love to take you out sometime."
Hmm should I reply or should I not?
"Sure I'd be delighted. How's tonight?" I reply, anxious for the answer.
"I should get ready for work my boss is gonna have a fit if I'm late."
*fast forward*
"Oh shit it's already 10, i'm gonna be late."
I grab my keys and coat running out the front door and locking it. As I'm running I bump into an unusually hard surface.
"Hey, asshole watch where you're going"
"Sorry love, I didn't see you there."
I lift my head looking at the person, I bumped into. Oh my god he has an Italian accent.
"Oh it's okay no worries" I stumbled struggling to get my words out. "You just moved in right? apartment B?"
Trying to make conversation as if I'm not already late.
"Yeah, you must be my neighbor, Kehlani is it?" His deep voice engraves in my mind.
"Well, I'd love to welcome you, but I am currently late to work." I respond with a nervous smile.
"Ok well it was nice to-" I cut him off by running past and making my way to the parking lot.
*fast forward*
"Hi, welcome to Good Coffee, Great Coffee. What can I get for you today?"
"Okay ma'am your total is $11.29 would you like a receipt?"
"Lani!! manager wants you in the back."
When can I ever catch a break.
" Yes Carmen" I say, in the most polite way.
"Can you work Saturday? Carmela isn't coming in for whatever reason." I try to hold back, my rude response.
"But that's my day off and I had plans."
"Did you forget who you're working for? Either work Saturday or I'm docking it off your pay."
"Okay fine I'll come in."
"See now, how hard was that?." I walk away, trying to hold back my sarcasticness.
*five hours later*
"Okay I'm heading out now."
As I leave work, the cold air immediately hits my face. I love New York, but the weather isn't it.
*ring ring*
"How's eight? I'd love to take you to this new restaurant."
I sit in my car, thinking if I should go on this date.
"It's been three years I should think about myself now." I say while staring at an old picture in my glove box.
"I miss you so much."
