Spencer was smiling at me.
And not like a courtesy smile you give people when you pass them in the hallway.
A real smile.
I think it melted my brain because by the time they reached me I had forgotten my name.
Spencer smelled so good.
Like cheeseburgers.
I love cheeseburgers.
But that's not the point.
The closer they got to me the larger their smile got.
Is that possible?
Were they that happy to see me?
Me?
Their smile was like when the popular guy smiled in a Disney movie.
Time slows.
And somehow the light reflected off of their teeth.
This moment lasted forever.
Until they spoke.
They said hi.
I said hi.
They asked me how I was.
I said I was hungry. Perfect.
They laughed.
Oh god Spencer was laughing at me.
Then the bell rang.
They put their hand on my shoulder.
They said bye.
My mouth was hanging open. And I didn't say anything back.
They smiled, walked to class; and I stood in the hallway staring at where they were standing and trying to drown out the noise of Luke yelling at me asking why I didn't ask them out.
