Spotting Loren, Nina and Angela at our usual lunch table, I dragged myself over to them wanting to just release and cry my eyes out. However I held myself together.
"Hey." I spoke first as I took a seat next to Nina.
"Oh hey." Loren grinned.
"Hey Mell." Angela's voice sounded solemn at least.
"Hi." Nina side hugged me for a moment just about breaking my strong facade.
I eyed Loren for a second confused by her smile. Maybe she didn't know. "Did you hear about Dillan?"
"Yeah." She nodded nonchalantly. "Too bad. I heard Danny got sent to the office over it too." She then scowled. "It all sucks, I feel like I should've said something to the guys about chilling out with their bullying crap."
Her response surprised me maybe she was having a change of heart. Normally she wouldn't bother sticking up for Dillan because she was friends with the jocks since she was a cheerleader and all but now she her actions said otherwise. "Believe me Loren, I also feel as if I should've stepped in at some point and tried to rekindle whatever friendship we ever had but I was too scared since he was the one who cut me totally off and even shunned me from hanging out with him in middle school."
"You guys can't blame yourselves for wishing you could've changed the past." Nina wisely spoke to Loren and I.
"Exactly." Angela agreed. "Although it may not have been the best choice, Dillan made the choice which is something neither of you could ever be responsible for."
"I'm just surprised he did that his senior year ya know?" Loren continued. "I mean, after graduating would he not be leaving off to college to get away like the rest of us?"
"I wish I knew." A sad sigh left my lips. "Anyways, subject change please." I said rubbing my temples trying to keep myself from becoming emotional.
Loren weirdly smiled a cheerful smile. "So Mrs. Bates fell asleep in class again today and Oliver hid everything on her desk. You should've seen how confused she was Mellany!" Loren laughed. "As soon as she noticed she got so angry. Especially when she saw her desktop gone too."
"Oh wow." Trying to smile back I did my best to pay attention to my friends but wasn't interested in what Mrs. Bates did.
"Oliver got into a loooooot of trouble. So much he earned himself lunch detention for three days." Loren said poking at her crispito.
Before Nina could reply to her, we all saw Jesse walking towards our table. Looking at Loren, I noticed she straightened her posture poking out her chest a little more than necessary.
"Hey girls." Jesse sent a nod my way letting me know he acknowledged me before doing the same to the Angela and Nina. "Can I speak to you Loren?" He then stared at her with a charming smile and blinked his so called 'dreamy' eyes.
