They call me Becky but my full name is Rebecca Patricia Armstrong Ramos. I am turning 21 soon. I have two siblings, Richie and Emily. They are my half brother and sister.
Mom left my British dad because as what she said she felt useless being with him. She said that my dad will give everything to her. He does not allow her to work and he promised her that she'll have everything she wants, but mom being a Filipina, I think it will not work that way. She wanted to grow as a person and as an individual. So she decided to leave England and go back to the Philippines, she said dad tried to convince her to go back to England but she refused. Sometimes or rather most of the time I hope mom just went back to England to be with dad.
Fast forward....
Mom died six months ago, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and we are too late to learn about it. It was stage 4 already and we don't have the means for her chemotherapy and my stepdad refuse to look for the amount needed. I tried but I failed. I worked double time. I worked as a sales lady in a mini grocery in our Barrio but I still need to look for another one to fill in the financial need for mom's medicines.
But She did not make it. She left us six months ago, I still feel the pain now but I need to be responsible for my two siblings. I love them so much and I will not allow them to starve. Well my Stepdad, he usually drinks and goes home drunk and worst he hurts me or my brother if we don't have food prepared for him.
I really want to end this misery that we are in now. I want to leave together with my two sibs, but Emily has a heart condition that she can't be tired. That is why I am really determined to look for a job that will allow me to support them, especially for Emily's medicine.
Richie: Where are you going Ate(elder sister)? he is pouting but also scared.
Becky: I'll need to go to the market to see if I can make some money for our food. I don't want Tatay (dad) to hurt us again if he'll arrive with no food on the table.
Richie: I hope you'll be able to look for one before he arrives. Do you want me to accompany you?
Becky: No need. Just look after Emily. In case I'll be late and Tatay arrives. Just go to our secret hiding place okay. Make sure you and Emily will stay quiet and don't leave Emily behind, understand?
Richie: Okay Ate. Please come home quick, okay.
Becky went out of their house, as she was walking along, Nanay Martha called her
Nanay Martha: Becky where are you going?
Becky: (Nag mano) Nay I'll just need to go to the market to see if I can do some sideline work for some money to buy us some decent meal for today. Because Tatay will surely get mad if we'll not have food on the table again.
Nanay Martha: You know what, come here inside first, I was really waiting for you, I have something here for you and your siblings. My niece who is working in Japan went home for a vacation and she gave us so many canned goods and other stuff. I already separated some of it and I thought of you three.
Nay Martha handed a plastic full of canned goods and some chocolates for them.
Becky: Nay this is so much, you might not have left something for you and Tay Emong already.
Nanay Martha: No, we have some here. It's just me and your Tatay Emong, we don't like to eat so much canned foods. We rather boil some vegetables. I already put a bottle of cooking oil there also, just make sure to keep it from you Father or else he might take it and bring it to his drinking buddies and make it their appetizers.
Becky: Yes Nanay. For sure Richie and Emily will really be happy when they see the chocolates. Nanay, thank you so much for this. (then Becky hugged her Nanay Martha)
