PENELOPE'S P.O.V◀

"Father! I told you! That rat stole it!"

huh...?

"It's the Mad Dog of Eckhart..."

Wait...

"Thank you for being a fool, Penelope"

What is this?

I was sleeping at home, But for some reason, strange pictures passed through my mind, one after another. A mansion with a lot of people surrounding 'me'. A big room with flickering lights, dresses, and food. Event, after event passed by each time, Until..... A dark place was the last picture that played. The last place looked like some kind of prison. Is this a dream? "Penelope Eckhart" Suddenly someone called 'me' coldly from the shadows, 'I' raise my head to look at him. Behind the bars, a tall, good-looking man walked up to 'me' He had black hair and blue eyes and was dressed like one of those noble men I saw in newspapers. "Your atrocities end here" He declared.

• Author's Note, Penelope is viewing the dream from a 1st person view

His voice felt like a knife stabbing into 'my chest'. This was a dream, so how come I'm in so much pain? "Jeez, why waste time talking with this stupid rat, brother?" Another person's voice rang in the cold room. This time he had pink hair, and blue eyes just like the first man.

'I' looked at him, and he glanced at 'me' too. His eyes carried mixed emotions, Hatred, disgust, mockery. Why was he looking at 'me' like that? It hurts. when I felt the surroundings of the dream, I realized 'my' ankle was chained, 'my' clothes were just ragged cloth put together. Even though my mother and I were poor, we at least got better clothes than this. I wasn't wrong, 'I' was in a prison, a dirty, cold, and miserable one at that. "Tsk, What? Got any crap to say?" The pink-haired man's words after that were very vulgar. He cursed at me calling me 'bitch' and other stuff until the black-haired man finally stopped him.

"--..--.----" The black-haired man opened his mouth and said something, but I couldn't hear him anymore. Later I realized he wasn't talking to 'me', he was talking to the woman standing behind the pink-haired man. "You shouldn't get too close to her, Yvonne" "Please, Brother Derrick?" The woman looked at him with a pitiful and tearful expression. Somehow 'I' was absolutely disgusted with her pretentious act. But unlike 'me' who was on guard with her, the two men in the room treated her kindly, almost gently even. Again, the agonizing pain in 'my' chest started to rise. Rather than just one knife, it felt like more than ten swords stabbed 'my' insides. Thoughts surged through 'my' mind.

'SHE'S JUST PRETENDING!'

 'DON'T FALL FOR IT!!'

'GET AWAY BEFORE SHE TAKES OUT HER SHARDS!'

'My' thoughts were filled with panic and worry for the two men that surrounded the pink-haired woman. How could 'I' still worry about them when they said really mean things to 'me'? 'STOP IT!! THEY'RE NOT YOUR BROTHERS, THEY'RE MINE!!!' It was only when I heard 'my' last thought that I finally understood why 'I' was so concerned. Those men were 'my' family... But aren't they too mean? If 'I' was their sister... Then shouldn't they be kind to me too? This dream was so sad and painful, but all of it felt so real at the same time. It feels like I'm actually living the dream. Before I realized it, the pink-haired woman they called 'Yvonne' stood in front of me and the two brothers who were cursing at me left us alone together.

Yvonne looked at me, but unlike the pitiful expression she showed the two brothers a while ago, she looked at me expressionless. Her eyes felt empty... Almost like a dead person's. She must have seen 'me' shiver with fright, soon her lips curled up into a wide, mocking smile. She was grinning so creepily. 'I' was scared and she was so close. "He...hehehe...AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA" A back-chilling laugh leaked out of her pale, small lips. It sounded so broken, 'I' trembled. "Ahh... Sweet, stupid, Penelope" She looked down at me, her voice sounded sweet, but her expression held so much mockery. "You truly made everything easy for me" she started. "A heroine needs a villainess after all. Who better to play that part than a fake daughter?" She grinned once more.

"--!!! --..----!!" 'I' was shouting furiously at her yet she only smiled wider. "Thank you for being a fool, Penelope" "Yo-!! --get away-.--!!" 'I' barely heard myself retaliate against her, constantly, 'my' voice was cut off, I don't know if it was because of the dream, but the tone in 'my' voice was so full of agony and despair. At the same time, I felt warm drops of water slide down 'my' cheeks, 'I' was crying. Yvonne took pleasure in 'my' tears, and a big worm-like monster creeped out of her skirt. It slithered up its owner's body until it reached above her head. It looked so disgusting that I wanted to vomit. I knew this was a dream but since it was so realistic, I felt nauseous at the sight of the worm. 'An enchanted creature..!' 'I' thought. It bared its sharp teeth and bit 'my' shoulder, injecting some sort of liquid into 'me'.

"--!!" 'I' screamed in pain, yet nobody came to help 'me'. Neither the brothers nor anyone else came to even check out 'my' cries. Yvonne, the culprit of all of 'my' pain, only smiled in satisfaction as she looked at 'my' sorry state. And eventually...... Everything became blurry, and 'I felt lumpy and cold. 'My' body was no more, I could feel nothing. "Ahh... How nice to see you like this.." However, unlike 'my' Half dead state, Yvonne continued to speak happily. "I wonder if everything would have turned out differently if only you weren't adopted by the Duke" She giggled.

Yvonne poked my forehead with her delicate finger, pushing my heavy head and letting it fall multiple times. 'I' couldn't do nor say anything to resist while she laughed and mocked 'me' indifferently. "Ah!, That's right. 'My' Brothers must be waiting for me" She acted as if she remembered something incredibly important, before talking with an innocent voice. As everything was blurry, 'I' could only make out a little of what 'I' could see of her movements. Touching her face, she massaged her facial muscles, and her once mocking face turned back into her previous, pitiful appearance. Looking down at me for the last time, she looked like she was savoring my pathetic appearance. Finally, she smiled gently as if she never mocked nor laughed at me in the first place.  "Goodbye, Penelope...."
