"Holy shit!" Jessika exclaimed, pulling Arlo into an alleyway.

"Ow!" Arlo yelled out in pain as his head hit the wall,

"Please tell me there was a good reason you gave me a concussion." He said, rubbing the back of his head.

"I just saw Rebekah."

A thousand years ago

It had been a few days since the transition, but instead of going back to her siblings Jessika had made the choice of leaving them and having Erik break the news of her death; which wasn't a complete lie.

After her siblings had been informed, Jessika and Erik ran away hoping to find a new home, carrying their belongings in two woven baskets which consisted of blankets and apples for food.

Not many words had been said between Erik and Jessika, the recent events had them rattled and worried for the future but all they knew is if they were together everything would be ok. Or at least that's what they thought...

"Jessika, wait. There's a river up there; we need some more water." Erika said, changing his direction to the river.

Jessika stopped and looked at the water, which wasn't what was appealing at that moment.

"Jess, are you ok?" Erik asked, when he noticed Jessika had stopped.

"Yes, I'm fine." She lied.

Erik examined her face, he could tell she was lying. But he didn't know how to help her, it killed him to see her like that. To see her hating herself and her existence just because of something that was forced upon her.

"Are you hungry?" He asked, walking up to her and holding out his hand hoping for her to take it.

Jessika looked at his hand for a few seconds, but then she felt her face change and was afraid of hurting him again. So, she brushed past him, heading to the river.

"I am fine." She said, as she walked away.

"You need to tell me if you are, I can help."

"How!" She snapped, she knew he could help her but she refused for that to be an option.

"Maybe I should just go back." She sighed in defeat, dropping the woven basket and sitting on the floor. Going back was the last thing she wanted to do but she couldn't think of another option.

"You are not going back." Erik stated as he picked up Jessika's basket and carried on walking to the river.

Jessika opened her mouth to speak but then paused, shocked at the matter of factness in his voice.

"But it'll be better for both of us."

"And safer..." She added quietly.

Jessika quickly stood up and ran to catch up to Erik who was already at the river.

"Jessika you are not going back, you absolutely hated it there so it will not be better for you it will just be worse. We can work this out together, because we are in it together."

A thousand years later

"Ok, but did you have to slam me against the wall?" Arlo sulked.

Jessika popped her head round the corner of the alleyway to see no sign of her older sister, she looked back at Arlo whose bottom lip was still out as he rubbed the back of his head.

"I'm sorry, are you ok? Good, let's go. I saw her come out of that bar so I think that's probably a good place to start." She said, walking off to the bar.
