Cortez High School was awfully close to the strip, which didn't make it the most ideal environment, but it sure as hell was popular amongst the richer folk. It was an elite school with highly knowledgeable teachers, gifted students, and an impeccable campus to boot.

The halls were carpeted with velvet, the walls gilded with enough gold and lights to make it feel like you were walking down lines of paparazzi and straight towards Hollywood. The classrooms held the same aspects, with more black marble to make the sight easier on the eyes.

Students attending the school were just as entrancing as well, with most of them looking even better than femous actors and owning talents that would be comparable, if not superior, to the big shots.

With all of these impressive children of powerful figures all compiled into the school, the security as well was in its most tip-top shape; the greatest in the country, second to the president's of course. Guards remained on standby outside of the school, along with thousands of security cameras set up to cover every entrance to the campus.

All in all, Cortez High School was the best of the best, an education center that did not accept just anyone, and she was no exception.

A black limousine pulled into the drop-off lane of the school. Men in black suits stepped out and stood in parallel lines before the one closest to the car opened the back passenger door. A young woman exited the car, the outside lights of the school reflecting off the red highlights streaked onto her brunette hair. Her warm, chocolate brown eyes were almost begging for you to get lost in them, leaving you to be forever trapped by their beauty. Enter Lucy Luciano, the one and only daughter of Dorall "Duke" Luciano, the owner of more than half of the casinos in Las Vegas, and one of the richest men in the world.

Lucy wore one of the countless attire for the school uniform. A red velvet quarter zip with golden symbols depicting the card suits lining the cuffs from the edge and up. Below the belt were a pair of black cargo pants tighter on the thighs and looser at the bottom. The pants hid the upper laces of her black boots with gold soles which raised her two inches above her height of five feet and seven inches.

The female kept her eyes glued onto her phone until she reached the front gates of the school, which had a deep security check, and it was no joke. She placed her backpack on the conveyor belt and watched as it moved under the rubber flaps. After doing so, she stepped underneath the metal detector arch and continued onto the other side, picking up her bag and making her way to the retinal scanner off to the side of the conveyor. She shut one eye and lined up the other on the contraption, waiting for its approval. The machine then pinged, allowing Lucy to advance forward into the halls and onwards to her classroom.

The classrooms in Cortez High School were categorized by the four card suits and specific card number and roles. Each suit specialized in their own education department. Diamond classes were occupied by the math department, club classes were used by the English and history department(ironically rooms for clubs as well), spade classes educated students in science, and finally, heart classes gave the students free roam to practice their electives.

The room Lucy was headed to was the Four of Spades, physics class which was also her homeroom. Today should be an interesting day for her. She had heard a few whispers from people now and then in the halls that there would be a new student in her homeroom class. Was it a good-looking boy? Or maybe a girl that may hold the same interests as her? Or would this new person rival her popularity? Only time would tell. Time and a few more steps to the door at least.

Upon entering the room, people already began glancing over at her, still not used to her heavy presence despite it being a few months into the school year already. The sullen but light notes of jazz filled the room, a staple from Lucy's physics teacher, Madam Beaumont, an educator who came from Paris after making a scientific breakthrough which fixed a certain equation relating to the effects of gravity on tectonic plates. In short, she was perfect for the job.
