Vegas has always been one of "those" kinds of cities. Those kinds of cities that you recognize the names of. Those kinds of cities that you associate something with. Those kinds of cities that are tourist magnets for people all around the globe. It was the brightest city in the world, attracting moths with its enticing light. However, much like the end of most moths, this light they were drawn to was more dangerous than they could ever had imagined.Being a main tourist attraction, bad people were quick to realize that. And not just bad people, horrible ones too. Plans were made to take advantage of tourists, which soon effected the city residents along with them. Pickpocketing, scamming, rigged betting, human trafficking, you name it. Vegas quickly changed from one of "those" kinds of cities to one of "those" kinds of cities.
The world is not perfect and it never will be. "Fabulous" Las Vegas is a prime example of such a fact.
Gangs and mafiosos work behind all of the flashy slot machines and betting tables. They use the bright lights to distract others from what happens in the dark. Cortez High School was no exception of being an instance of the corruption of the mob. It's hard enough for people to be genuine in their work. Who says a school has to stay true to their morals as well? But morals are a thing of the past. Chivalry is dead, after all. Even he didn't do this to be a knight in shining armor.
Ryder lifted Lucy off of the ground, the warm, crimson liquid smearing onto her hands. She gulped, unsure of what to make of the situation. Should she regard the boy in front of her as her savior or a murderer? Perhaps both. The line between the definitions are thinning more and more nowadays.
"Come with me. I'll escort you back to the limo." Ryder says pulling Lucy towards the direction they came from.
"Hold on!" Lucy pulled back, noticing the smudged blood on her right palm. She wanted to scream and puke, but even she knew that would cause more problems than solve.
"Who the hell are you?" She says frowning.
He paused. "Ryder Genovez. Didn't you hear me introduce myself first period?" He turns his head back to Lucy, raising an eyebrow.
Her jaw dropped slightly, bewildered at how dense he was. "Of course that's not what I meant, genius. You're sat next to me in every class I have, you followed me all the way here, and you just pulled out a gun and killed that guy!" She points at the corpse, blood bubbling from the three wounds and trickling down his face.
"The seats are just a coincidence. I also happened to be going in the same direction as you." Ryder lifts out a small packet of tissues from his pocket and began patting down the bloodstains on his face and hands. It didn't do the trick completely, but at least it wasn't as obvious compared to before. He tossed the tissues off to the side, bouncing off the motionless body and landing on the ground.
"Coincidence, my ass! I'll call the police and tell everyone at school what happened if you don't tell me right now!" Her voice got increasingly louder with each word she spewed out. Ryder, however, remained calm about the situation. He's been through this before. Not everything word for word, but he has been in many similar cases. This was the poker face of a stone cold killer, and he was far from retiring it.
He sighed and shook his head. "I'm your bodyguard. I was hired by your father to keep you safe. He paid off the school for the seating arrangements so I would stay by your side at all times." Ryder leaned forward and grabbed Lucy's wrist again, pulling her towards the entrance of the alleyway and turning right. She jerked her hand back again, but this time she followed him after seeing that he wasn't stopping.
"Then why wasn't I told earlier? Plus, why would I need a bodyguard when there's already security outside of the school? It just doesn't make sense." Lucy huffed, becoming increasingly more quiet due to the hundreds of people walking up and down the strip.
