The striking red car contrasts the vast greens spread around it, sun scorches down on it as if glaring at the intruder in this calm atmosphere, a trespasser to ruin the preserved nature of this place. On the contrary, the sprouting flowers seem to welcome her in their dying spring glory as if a flame burning its brightest before extinguishing, although summer will surely revive these buds—though only half as bright.
Once the abiotic category has judged the car—or its owner—enough, the biotic side shows up in the form of a wild rabbit that abruptly jumps in front of the marron vehicle, making it jerk to a haphazard halt.
"Oh my God!" comes the voice of its swiveted owner and soon the door opens and a girl, in canvas flats, high-waisted dark-washed jeans, and a blue-white striped polo shirt, walks out with her feline-like eyes blown wide in a somewhat horror.
But opposing to the usual fashion, she doesn't caress her expensive-looking car and immediately crouches in front of the small animal who seems to have gotten the fright of its life.
"Hey little one," she croons, hands tentatively opened in front of the tiny animal, "Did I scare you?"
The white rabbit with grey taints of dirt doesn't reply and leaps forward to nibble on her fingers, assuming them to contain some food. The girl, immediately pulls back her hand, not keen on getting bitten on her first day in the countryside but chuckles minutes later. "So you want some food, huh?" She hums, brushing back one of the many strands of her straight black hair, "Wait a sec."
But just as she turns around, she is met with the unknown face of a man with a bicycle standing before her, his eyebrows raised in what one would call an amused expression. Yet she yelps loudly, not accustomed to people appearing out of nowhere.
"You might not want to indulge with these wild animals," the man says, his light hair stirring through the breeze as he smiles down at her, "they can get nasty sometimes."
"And who are you, to tell me that?" she raises an eyebrow, off-put with this unwelcoming remark of this man.
She has her hands planted on the burning asphalt road, to maintain her balance after this man scared her. Her waist-length hair is ruffled in turbulent strands as the wind quickens up. There are farms on both sides of the road, her car behind. The man has one hand on his bicycle handle, the other shoved in the pocket of his brown pants, and the collar of his loose crème shirt flutters with the same intensity as that of her hair.
Kim Jennie paints it as a scene of some novel in her head, the beginning of some calm summer romance. Only if she knew this one was going to be a commotion instead. And she is the protagonist of it all.
