Jennie doesn't enjoy beaches. The sand is too sticky, the sun too bright and the water is too blue. The soaring waves might be calm for others, but they generate turbulence in her heart. She doesn't have many happy memories with beaches either. She can't remember the last time she visited one.
So it surprises her that Taehyung's idea of finding inspiration is to mount a local bus and reach the nearby coastal village. He is wearing a straw hat, sunglasses, and one of his weird bright printed shirts. And there's a fully equipped bag on his shoulders.
"I didn't know your idea of inspiration would be a beach," Jennie tries not to sound too disappointed, the food basket dangling from her arms. "That too in the middle of the afternoon."
"Afternoon is the only time when the beach is empty," Taehyung shrugs and saunters forward.
Jennie feels dizzy just from the immense sunlight pouring right over her head, "Because of a reason," she says through gritted teeth and her sandals click against the asphalt.
He halts, turns around, and knocks down his glasses enough to give her a look, "Don't tell me you can't handle a little sun."
Jennie's brows furrow, "I never said that."
"It's okay though, you are a city girl, after all, I get it if you can't handle it here." Taehyung says in his annoyingly nonchalant voice as he turns to a smaller alleyway, and then looks over his shoulder, "Should we just go back?"
Jennie chooses to ignore his words and quickens her steps to walk past him.
"Or maybe not," she can hear a smile in his voice and once again she is wondering why she agreed on this stupid idea with this annoying man.
Because you are lonely, the voice in her head not-so-thankfully supplies, and it is awful how it's right. So to shake away the self-depreciating thoughts, she chooses to talk instead. "It seems like you know this place well."
Taehyung has caught up to her now—not really a surprise with his tall height—he lets out a deep hum at her words, holding his straw hat with one hand to look dramatically at the sky. "I have, I come often to this area." He nods, "and you will soon find out why."
"That sounds ominous," Jennie says just to annoy him.
Taehyung rolls his eyes, "It won't if you stop making your pretty little head overthink so much."
"I can't help it, it's the writer in me," Jennie clears her throat and raises her palms over her forehead to shield her eyes, maybe bringing a hat would have been a good idea.
She is just in between regretting her choices when a weight lands on her head. Taehyung's straw hat. He quickly detaches his hand that has placed the cap and adjusts his sunglasses.
