Anya, the girl with telepathic abilities, was now sixteen. She was a sophomore at Eden Academy, a prestigious school. It had been years since Operation Strix was completed, and Anya was now living a normal life with her family. Well, her family wasn't considered normal. They all found out about each other's secrets. Yor was an assassin, Loid was a spy, and Anya was a telepath. Although their family image started as fake, over time they realized that they could become a true family. Anya was now going to Eden Academy, not to save the world, but to learn.
It was a Tuesday, an ordinary school day for Anya. She hopped off the bus and strolled toward the academy.
"Anya!" Becky waved. Becky had been her best friend ever since she first enrolled in Eden Academy.
"Hey, Becky!" Anya had a refreshed smile.
"Did you do the homework yesterday?"
Anya's smile turned to a look of disgust. "You're really gonna ruin my mood right now?"
Becky laughed. "Ah, come on! I don't think it was that hard."
As they continued to chat, near a bench at the front of the school was Damian. He was with his two friends, who were talking to each other, but his mind was focused on something else. He stared at the girl with fluffy pink hair as she walked slowly with her friend. Ah! What am I doing? Damian thought as he caught himself looking at Anya, his face heating up.
His friends noticed how flustered he was. "Damian," Ewen called slyly. "Looking at her again?"
Ewen and Emile smirked, trying to hide their giggles. Damian's face reddened even more, "N-no! Are you guys six-year-olds?"
Damian let out a huff of air while his friends snickered. He was annoyed at them at times, but he still loved his friends.
He turned again toward Anya and Becky, catching a bit of what they were saying.
"So, Anya..." Becky grinned suspiciously. "Did you hear about prom coming up?"
"I didn't. When is it?""What!?" Becky seemed more surprised than Anya expected. "It's this Saturday! This means you don't have a dress yet! We need to shop for one today!"
"Oh, okay." Although Anya appeared like she didn't care, she was feeling excited about the dance."But that isn't even the most important part! Anya, do you have a date?"
Damian, overhearing their conversation, gulped.
"No, I don't. Why though? Can't I just go with you?"
"Well, the thing is..." Becky twiddled her fingers. "I'm going with Ewen! He asked me to go, and he's been acting more sweet lately, and-"
"Wait, you like Ewen?" Anya did her iconic smirk."Shh! They're literally right over there!"
Just then, the group of boys noticed them. "Hey, are you talking about me, Becky?" Ewen shouted, winking with a laugh. The three of them walked over to the girls.
"No! Ugh, whatever!" she blushed.
"Then what were you talking about?" Ewen grinned.
"Since we're going to prom together, I was just telling Anya how I don't want her to go alone."
All eyes turned on Anya as she blinked nonchalantly.
"Well, how about this," Ewen suggested, "Anya can go with Damian-"
Damian turned red, "Hey-"
"And Emile, of course!"
Emile smiled, making a thumbs-up with his hand.
Anya glanced at Damian and they locked eyes before he turned his head to the side, embarrassed.
Anya tried to speak, "I can just go by myself too you kn-"
"That's a great idea, Ewen!" Becky approved. "Anya, unless you agree to be some guy's date, promise me you'll go with Damian and Emile!"
Anya thought for a moment. She'd rather just go with Becky, but she knew Becky wanted to spend time with Ewen. Anya didn't want to ruin her best friend's night."Okay, I will. But you have to dance with me at least for a little bit!"
Becky hugged her. "Aww, of course I will!"
Anya turned to Damian and Emile. She knew Emile would probably say yes, but she was unsure about Damian. She decided to read his mind. Why did Becky say "Unless you agree to be some guy's date" to Anya? He sighed.
What did that mean? Anya thought. Did that mean he wanted Anya to find a date so that he wouldn't have to go with her?" Anya was confused. She still decided she would ask them if they wanted to go with her.
"Do you two want to go with me?"
"Sure!" Emile nodded. "We can all just hang out there together. Plus, I hear the dinner will be fancy!"
Damian accepted, "S-sure."What was this feeling that Anya had? Although she could read his mind, she could never understand what he was thinking. It made it seem to her like he didn't want to go to prom together. Why was she sad about that? Why was there a part of her that wanted to go with him?
It's okay. I don't want to burden him anyway... I'll find another date.
