Damian lay down in his bed, gazing up at the ceiling. Ugh, did I give off the wrong impression to her, yesterday?

It was Wednesday morning now and Damian was deep in thought about what happened. He reminded himself: He was going to prom... with Anya. Actually, he was going with Emile too. Damian groaned, stuffing his face in his pillow.

He just wanted to tell her– to ask her a simple question. Do you want to go together? Just the two of us? Well, maybe it was two questions, but he wanted to say it cooly to her anyway. He didn't want to blush or make a childish fuss, but whenever he looked at her sparkling eyes, he couldn't help himself.

If they went together, then maybe they'd put the past behind them and become closer.

Damian looked back on the years he'd known Anya. The closest they'd ever been was when they were very young, and they didn't even have a good relationship back then. They were enemies. Friendly enemies maybe, but still enemies.

He remembered the small crush he had on her when they were kids. As the years went by, they talked to each other less and less, and his crush started to fade. It was only last year when they shared a few more classes that Damian started to notice her more. He saw her as being kind, hardworking, and empathetic to others. Maybe that little crush he had back then slowly blossomed into something more before he realized it.

Thinking back to yesterday, he worried he sounded annoyed or unenthusiastic about going with her. He truly did want to go with Anya.

The bedroom door slammed open and Damian swiftly sat up, startled.

"Damian!" Emile was in his uniform, out of breath. "Where's your uniform? Class is starting in two minutes!"

"Shit!" Damian got out of bed and scrambled into his clothes.

Two minutes later, he sat beside his friends in one of Eden Academy's vast classrooms.

"Ugh, where is our teacher? He's usually on time." Ewen complained.

Emile replied, "Isn't it a good thing for us? We have more time to relax."

Once again, Damian was gazing at the girl sitting before him. Anya was playing with her pink mechanical pencil. He sat there looking, unaware that she was focused on who to bring as a date to prom. I don't want to ask one of the boys in my classes. I don't know them that well. I just wish I could go with someone who I didn't have to see after prom, so I could avoid the awkwardness that comes with it.

The classroom doors opened suddenly and in came the teacher. With him was a boy who seemed to be a new student. The girls in the class looked at each other and giggled. He was certainly good-looking with his styled blonde hair and confident smile.

The more outgoing girls had a similar thought. Since they gave up on trying to flirt with Damian because he didn't care to interact with them, they decided that this new boy would be their next target.

The teacher called the class to pay attention. "I apologize for being late. We have a new student with us today."
The boy introduced himself: "Hello! My name is Theo and I'm a transfer student. It's nice to meet you all!"

The girls swooned over his voice while Anya squinted her eyes at him. He seemed pretty stuck up once she read his mind. Ah, look at these girls falling for me! Hah! She cringed at his thoughts. Yeah, it was probably best to stay away from someone like him.

The class was over, and Anya went to her locker. As she rummaged through her backpack, she noticed the new boy stepping into the hallway. A trail of girls followed behind him.

Anya couldn't help but read his mind. I'm popular with the ladies yet again! I can't wait to see their hearts break once I tell them I only stay for a few weeks.

Anya's eyes brightened. He was only staying for a few weeks! He could be her prom... No. She directed her attention at him again to see him squint his brown eyes, smile, and play with his blonde hair.

Anya cringed. She couldn't possibly go out with that kind of guy. But as she thought that, an image of Damian appeared in her mind. She could feel her heart beat a bit faster. But I also don't want to ruin Damian's prom night...

She turned toward the new student and he locked eyes with her. He smirked at her, but Anya rolled her eyes while turning back to her locker. The boy was intrigued by this since he strolled over to her, leaving the group of girls behind him.

"Hi." he grinned. "I'm Theo."
Anya visibly cringed at him. "I'm Anya."
"That's a pretty name! It fits you."
Anya peaked at the girls behind him. What a player, she thought. She wanted to punch him so badly.

Before she could respond, Theo took Anya's hand, bowed down, and kissed it. At the same time, Damian and Ewen walked through the hall with Damian stopping first.

Anya's cheeks pinkened. "What are you doing?" she pulled away.

"Just saying goodbye. See you!" And with that, he headed away followed by the trail of girls. What a weirdo...

Turning toward Ewen and Damian, Anya noticed Damian's eyes. He glared at Theo as the boy walked away.

Ewen called out to Anya, "Hey! What was that about?" He laughed.

"I'm not sure." Anya was puzzled herself.

"Anyway, do you want to tell her something, Damian?" Ewen nudged him.

"Huh? W-what?" Damian started to bubble up with irritation. "No, she's just another girl! Why would I..." He scoffed, "Forget it. Let's go, Ewen." And with that, he left.
"Oh, uh, ok! Bye, Anya. Damian, wait for me!" Ewen sped off after him.

Anya was too consumed with her own thoughts to notice Damian's red ears.
