It was 2:26 pm and Ronnette Kelley was sitting in her 7th period, science. Ronnette, who went by Ronnie, was watching her science teacher, Mrs. H, answer yet another stupid question.
"Ugh I mean seriously Mrs. H did you have to place me next to him of all people? And on top of that, in the front?!" Ronnie thought, sighing quietly and reluctantly glancing over at her elbow partner, Paxton. Both annoying and not possessing the quality of being-able-to-shut-the-fuck-up, he was doing nothing but staring at the clock, as if willing time to move faster. Their teacher, Mrs. H, was at the front of the room answering one of their classmates questions.
"I swear to god-"
"Ok, now I want you all to work on the Water Footprint Calculator and record your information in a doc," Mrs. H said, interrupting Ronnie's thought. "You will have the rest of class time and you may move around!" The classroom was then filled with noises of moving chairs and chatter.
"Thank God that's over!" Ronnie said as she moved tables to join her friends, Ev and Karl.
"Imagine sitting next to Paxton." Karl jeered, with a grin. Ronnie simply rolled her eyes at him and opened up her computer.
"Hey guys!" Niko said as they pulled up a chair next to Ronnie. This was met by the silence while Ev and Karl both grabbed their laptops.
"What's up man?" Ev said as she plugged in her headphones.
"Is it bad that I searched up my house on Zillow for this?" Niko asked, tilting their head.
"No, I don't think so but that depends on what else you were looking at Niko." Karl said as he burst into laughter.
"Oooohhh! That's actually a good idea!" Ronnie said, typing her address into her computer.
"Why thank you, I don't have many." Nico said, bowing slightly.
"Hey! That's not what I meant!" Ronnie said, chuckling and elbowing Nico.
"Wait, which house do I pick?" Ev said looking at Ronnie which a look of confusion on his face.
"I don't know man, whichever house you like better I guess?" Ronnie said, as she clicked on docs and opened the calculator.
"Hey Nico, what do you think?" said Karl, holding up his hands in a heart, framing Ronnie and Ev. "Ship or no?" Nico looked over the two of them thoughtfully, standing up.
"Absolutely." They said, returning back to their seat.
"Oh my god, Ronnie, you should ask Ev to homecoming!" Karl said, still holding up his hands.
"Ev?" Ronnie looked over at Ev with a playful grin on her face. "Well, alright!" Ronnie shrugged and pulled up a screenshot of a Wattpad story she'd been reading. "But look at this!" Ev and Karl leaned over to read it until Ev suddenly looked to her side and timidly said.
"Hi Mrs. H." Ronnie quickly turned to see Mrs. H reading what was on her laptop.
"That doesn't look like your school work." She said as Ronnie scrambled to close the tab and open her work. Karl and Ev waited until Mrs. H left to look at each other and burst into laughter.
"Not funny guys!" Ronnie said, flustered and embarrassed.
"Well, it could've been worse!" Nico said, extending their arm to pat Ronnie's shoulder.
"Yeah, I guess." Ronnie shrugged, still a bit embarrassed and continued her work. The rest of the time flew by, as the assignment was easy to complete and didn't take very long. But as time went by, Ronnie thought about if she was actually going to ask Ev to homecoming. It was an amusing thought as Ronnie and Ev had been friends since 7th grade. She had mixed feelings about it. But when she went home that Friday, she sought to ask Ev out.
Happy 1st Chapter guys! It's been a hot minute lol
