Let's keep it awkward I know I'm ready for it, you feel me?
Before Monet can knock on the door, her sister Celine opens the door. "Wave to the camera that you forgot existed." Celine points to the camera near the entrance.
Monet rolls her eyes. "I did not forget. I thought they were turned off." She walks into her sister's apartment and goes straight to the bar cart.
"It must be bad if you came here, lil sis." Celine grabs a couple of glasses, goes over to Monet, and grabs the bottle of Gin from her. "I'll make the drinks now. What was so urgent that you needed to interrupt my night."
Monet felt lost and confused about her emotions, so she asked her sister for advice. "Have you ever been in love?" she asked tentatively.
Her sister paused for a second before replying. "Yes, I have once." She said softly. "It's not always easy, but it's worth it."
Monet considered her sister's words, wondering if the risk of vulnerability was worth it. "I don't know if I'm ready for that kind of commitment," she admitted.
Her sister smiled softly and handed her a drink. "I assume you are not talking about your current girlfriend but the girl you probably made out with in all my rooms in this penthouse. Why did you end things with her? Based on the footage I saw. The PG footage I only saw." She says as Monet begins to have a panicky look. "You guys seemed happy."
"I was happy." Monet confessed, "But I knew it would not last for long. People noticed I was missing at events, and if we came out as a couple...." She takes a deep breath and takes a long sip of her drink before she continues. "People would look at me differently if they saw me with someone like Zoya. A sweet, moral bus rider that does not care about what she wears."
"When you say people, do you mean our mother?" Celine questions. "Lil sis, I told you to quit trying to impress her. Why are you so obsessed with trying so hard for her? You are the youngest of the De Haan children. The pressure of needing her approval should not matter to you. You are the youngest of four. Theodore is probably whoring it out in Harvard right now, not caring what anyone thinks. Nicole and I, the oldest, will be the ones our parents will force to run the company if they retire. I strongly feel mother will continue to run the company even on her deathbed." They both oddly laugh at that thought.
"You say I don't need to impress her, but you are not here. All of you have left the house, so what little attention we used to get is now only on me. She hates every fucking thing I do." Monet feeling frustrated. "The only time she has ever seemed to be proud of me is now."
Celine sits next to Monet and puts her arm around her. "I understand the struggles you are facing. Our mother's constant need for approval is overwhelming, and it could feel like we are not good enough. I meant what I said. You need to move on from seeking Camille's approval and focus on what matters, which is your own happiness. Set goals that are meaningful to you and aim to achieve them, regardless of what she thinks. Remember that our mother's opinion is just that - an opinion that should not define your life choices." She sips her drink, "Also, she can't take you off the inheritance anyways cause Grandma De Haan left us each a trust." She says, trying to comfort Monet.
