Durga Puja is more than merely pandal-hopping. There's more to the festival than pretty lights and sweet music. The emotions attached with it are hard to put in words. Every Bengali knows how refreshing Mahalaya is and how heartbreaking Dashomi is. Unlike the rest of India, "Navratri" is not a thing for us. The Pujo starts the moment we start thinking of it. Dates are just assigned holidays. The Pujo is that warm feeling one finds in the embrace of a mother or any close one for that matter.
Though the emotions are hard to put to words, I have written this story to let the world know more or less what it's like to be in Kolkata during Durga Puja. The funny thing about this festival is that people from all religious backgrounds celebrate it with equal excitement. A believer or an atheist- it's more about the spirit than the religious side.
So, here is a story that revolves around the festival. Note that throughout the story, there are song references and you- the reader- will have more fun with songs playing in the background.
Happy Pujo!
