*Mature content ahead* I freaking blushed while writing it!
I felt something shift next to me, so I slowly opened my eyes, expecting the worst, but I only saw darkness. It was still two in the morning. I got confused and alarmed. I glanced to my left and saw Dario moving in his sleep and muttering incomprehensible words. I closed the distance and tried to listen.
My heart broke at what I heard.
"Mi dispiace, papà... I can't catch your uccisore. I am w-weak... I am... worthless... I want to die so I can see you. Be with you."
He could not even rest in his sleep as the demons of his past haunted him.
I felt terrible that he had to suffer in his sleep. Mafia Don or not, he was once a child. His childhood was stripped from his grip way too early.
I decided to try my luck as I wrapped my arm around his torso and ran gentle circles on the nape of his neck. "You are not worthless, Dario. It's okay to feel weak sometimes, but that doesn't make you weak. You are a human with a heart of gold, and you made my life more exciting and better..." My quiet voice made him calm down and stop wrestling with the covers.
I smiled at my small victory.
After a few minutes of silence and me pondering over my life so far, I knew he was awake because I felt his intense gaze on me. It was pitch black, but my senses were sharper than ever. I kissed his jawline and sighed.
"You have me now. You have Enola, Andrea, Basilio, and everyone in the mafia. You are not alone, so don't be selfish and think about leaving us behind! Leaving this world behind."
Silence. This time, I felt his thoughts running wild, so I kissed his cheek.
"Did I sleep talk?" he whispered, flipping us over and caging me in his arms. He nuzzled his nose into my neck and took a deep breath, making me chuckle. His subtle beard tickled me.
"Yeah, and I want you to speak to me whenever you feel lonely. You are not alone, Dario. You have an army of loyal people with you and around you. We will catch Atlas and everyone involved in your dad's murder, but I want you to focus on the now. I don't want the thought of death to cross your mind. Not ever again!"
I did not realize I was crying until he wiped the tears away and kissed my forehead. Most of his weight was on me, but I did not mind. His touch was soothing.
"Bambi... I am sorry."
I shook my head. "Don't apologize to me. Apologize to yourself. If the thought of death crosses your mind ever again, I will save you the trouble and kill you myself!" As soon as I said that, he burst out laughing. "I am not joking," I said, smiling, knowing I would never harm him.
"Now that I am not sleepy anymore, let's have some fun," he suggested as he lit a small lamp so we could see each other. I tried to sit on the bed, ready to watch something to pass the time, but he quickly pinned me under him, stopping me from moving. "I meant bed fun." His smirk made me blush so hard.
I tried to cover my face, but he held my hands above my head.
He was dominant yet gentle at the same time.
Did I like that?
"You know I am not-"
He cut me off with a gentle smile. "I know, we will wait until after our wedding..."
I rolled my eyes at his words. "You smooth motherfucker," I muttered, and he chuckled at my embarrassment. We did not say I love you yet without the 'I think' part, and he was already thinking of our future. I did not know if we were rushing things. I did not want to overthink it.
