"According to the time circuits" Kai said "We're home in New York, 2029!"
"Awesome! We're finally back!" said the others happily.
"I can't wait to see the Chief and tell him everything; about our sabotaged time machine, about Leonardo da Vinci fixing the-" Amy was interrupted by Theo.
"Can the official briefing wait until tomorrow? I'm ready for a shower, and the longest nap in history!" said the lab manager tiredly.
"Let's go outside, everyone! To breathe the sweet air of 2029 again!" said Janis excitedly.
Not long after, with the help of the time machine, the team found themselves back in 2029 New York.
"Home, sweet home!" said Orlando and Penelope cheerfully.
However, the initial joy was soon interrupted. Nothing was the same. In the place of the Statue of Liberty stood a huge pyramid guarded by Egyptian guards. Nebet was unexpectedly dragged away to be brought before the royal couple. The others were unexpectedly arrested and thrown into prison, because as it turned out, someone had sabotaged the time machine. They were in a completely different present. In the Altered Present.
"Wait... some of these buildings look familiar, but is that a giant pyramid in the middle of Manhattan?" Jack asked disapprovingly. He had a very bad feeling. "What's been happening in New York since we've been gone?"
"You! Stop there!" shouted the Egyptian guards.
"Who are you? And what-" Jack was about to ask the questions, but was interrupted.
"Silence!" the guards shouted angrily "You're under arrest by order of the Pharaoh!"
"Under arrest?" Amy said confused. "Sir, we're agents of the Temporal Crimes-" the Egyptian guards also interrupted her while she was speaking.
"We know who you are! Enemies of the Ptolemy Dynasty! We have orders to seize your time machine and take you to the New Cairo Penitentiary!"
"New Cairo?" Nebet was puzzled "What are you-" she could hardly finish what she had to say, the guards grabbed her by the shoulders.
"You, girl! With the Egyptian facial markings! You're coming with us to the palace!"
"Take your hands off Nebet, she's-" Jack couldn't even finish his sentence again because he was stunned. The guards did the same to the others.
The team recovered in a small apartment. Some still had the stunner working in them, but they were with them.
"What the hell happened anyway? Why did everything turn out so bad?" Jack asked in frustration.
"I don't want to make up conspiracy theories, but I think someone sabotaged the time machine and we ended up in a bad present. That's the only option that makes sense." Theo said.
One of the Egyptian guards treated the girls in a rather rude manner, which made Jack bravely confront the guard. Suddenly the guard collapsed. Penelope came out from behind him with a crowbar to knock him down. The team then immediately began to rush out of the prison. There was an apartment building on the site of the TIME headquarters, the occupant of which was Christopher Scott, the chief. Everyone went to the sublet. But what awaited them there shocked them all.
The nightmare is far from over... Why? The team wanted to turn to Chief Scott for help, but everything that happened to Christopher Scott was both unexpected and unfair. He was murdered. His throat was cut. If someone had helped him, he wouldn't have died.
"No... No, this... This couldn't happen!" cried Amy. She felt the same way when she lost Frank during her service time in Pacific Bay. As the painful memories came up in her, her heart almost broke into a thousand pieces again. The others didn't know what to do with this situation, so Marina and Jack took action. After all, they knew Amy better.
