I left the bathroom where my mate was, frustrated and confused. I could understand her apprehension, but I was sure there was something else going on. My mate was bleeding, and her healing wasn't right. She should have been ok, all wolves have advanced healing, so why wasn't hers working? I don't think that she was able to feel the pull of the mate bond either. She sort of reacted to me, but most of it is fear. I can still smell it in the room.
I paced anxiously, listening to the doctor and Daisy in the bathroom. Hearing her heartbeat calmed the rage inside of me. I wanted to kill the she wolves who hurt her, but I knew she would believe that their death was her fault and never forgive herself.
I had messed up. In a way bigger than words could describe. I was the reason that my pack had mistreated her, and believed it to be ok.
A knock sounded on the door, and I tensed up, lips curling into a snarl, my instinct to protect my mate in the other room. When the door opened, a scent invaded my senses that immediately calmed me, and made me relax. My mother peeked into the room, concern etched into her features.
"Oh, my little Damien." The words were so soft, and I bristled a little.
"I'm not a child, mother."
"I know." She walked gracefully across the room and embraced me in a way that only a mother could. "But you are my child, and I will never forget that."
All of the tension left my body, and I hugged my mom. We held each other in silence for a long moment, neither of us wanting to let go first. Eventually, we both let go.
"You have made quite a mess, young man."
"I know."
"How are you going to go about this now?" She gave me a disapproving look.
"What do you mean?"
"Hmmm. Maybe we should start with the mate who you left here. Maybe the pack business that you have to deal with now that your father isn't the Alpha anymore? Maybe the visitors in the pack who came to see your coronation and now are in shock because instead of watching you receive your title they'll be watching you whip three of your pack members as a punishment for hurting your mate?"
I dropped into one of the seats and buried my face in my hands. No one could make me wonder if I had made the right decisions as much as my mother.
"Is the Prince here yet?" I asked her. "I need help, and I trust him."
"He is, but I believe he's had a little bit of a struggle himself, his mate is here, and some of our pack members have upset her."
"What?" I questioned. "Why on earth would they upset the future Luna Queen?"
"Because, Damien." Mother looked at me, her lips pursed. "She's an omega."
My eyes went wide, and the laugh that followed was dark.
"If they think that I'm bad when it comes to protecting the things that I love, they're in for a surprise. He's welcome to add anyone to the punishment tomorrow. Although I doubt letting them live would satisfy his wolf."
Mother shook her head. "It was Hadley, She's the daughter of the lead warrior who served under your father. In any other case, I would say she'd probably be traveling back to his pack to be punished as he saw fit. She is traveling to his pack, but she probably won't be punished by the prince."
"Why not?" I asked curiously.
"She's his chosen beta's mate." Mother said, matter of factly. "The future beta told her twice to be respectful to the girl, even before she'd met the prince and found out that they were mates, but Hadley wouldn't listen, and from what I hear, the young beta got fed up with it very fast. He commanded silence from her, and I don't think she's been out of her room since then."
