"As Alpha and Luna, you will need time to solidify your bond. Especially with the rocky relationship you two have in your past." My father began. "Because of the difficulties of running and managing an entire pack, you will not begin to do things as leaders until your relationship is stable. Its for the better of the people."
"So we aren't inheriting the title? I don't understand." My little mate's mind was running away with her. What if its my fault? Damien won't be alpha. What if we can't build a steady relationship? Before I could say anything to reasure her, my mother stepped in.
"No, you are, just not right away. We know that having to build a relationship for the good of other people isn't fair to you, so just do you're best. You'll live like pack members for the better part of three months, sooner if you feel it might be better for you."
"Damien will have a job, and Daisy might or might not, it depends on what you decide. I never took a job, and I learned how to do a lot of the homemaking tasks, which is just fine, its up to preference."
I sat down on the couch next to my mate, and watched her for a moment while she stared at the ground.
"We have to start living together?" Her voice was small, unsure. "When?"
"Preferably soon. Like tonight. We'll have a few more things to get sorted out, I have a list, but most of it is small. You'll go with your parents and get your things." My mom was smiling. I knew she was so happy about Daisy and I being mates, but I could feel my mates panic through the bond.
Maybe I could fix that.
"Actually, if its ok, while Henley and Kian are here, I'd prefer to stay close to them. Daisy is welcome to stay in my room with me, but its gonna take a while for my wolf to settle without my brothers."
"I think thats a good idea." Daisy's mom added to the conversation. "It will take more than today to get everything packed for Daisy, we need to probably do some shopping too."
"Whats the first thing we need to do?" I ask, knowing I've already started some of the paperwork with my mother.
"You'll have all week, but it shouldn't take that long, Number one, you need to find a job, and a car. Daisy needs to do the same, but we recommend you share a car for now. You're father and I will continue responsibility of the pack for the next few months until you can assume your positions."
"We can do that. Now, if you wouldn't mind, we'll join you tomorrow, but for now, I would like some time alone with my mate."
Our parents nodded, and Daisy and I got up to hug them.
Daisy's father, Laken, extended his hand, and pulled me into him when I accepted it. The words he spoke when he did made everyone in the room tense up.
"If you mistreat her, in any way, if I have any reason to suspect you haven't changed, then I swear on the Goddess of the Moon herself, I will challenge your position and kill you. Be the man she deserves."
I looked him straight in the eyes to respond.
"I will." They left quickly, Laken glaring at me the whole way out. I would deal with that, eventually, I was sure. When I turned around to look at Daisy, she had a look of horror on her face.
"Damien, I'm so sorry. I didn't want him to do that I-"
"Daisy, you are not responsible for the actions of other people. I do not appreciate the way he responded, but after everything I have put you through, I am not surprised either.
"Now, where were we?" I approached her, and she backed away when I reached out to touch her face. No kisses tonight I guess.
"I don't know." She sat down in the chair the farthes away from me possible.
"Okay. Well, then can we talk about whats coming next for us?"
"I guess?"
I paced the room, speaking as I walked on the other side of the room as her.
"Kian and Henley are here for three or four more days, and honestly, I would much prefer to move into the cabin with their help, today or tomorrow, but I can tell you aren't ok with being alone in the cabin with me quite yet, so we can stay here, as suggested, or you can pack your things tonight and all of us can stay at the cabin. There is plenty of room." I wanted her all to myself of course, but we did have a lot to get through, probably going to need some medical help to settle our past.
"You would let that happen?"
"I wasn't lying when I said its going to take time for me to settle. They've been my pack for years."
"Tonight, then."
"Good, and as for a car, I have an old ford f2250. She's loud, but she'll get the job done, unless you want something different, I can do that."
"A truck? You drive a truck now?"
"Yeah, I do. A lot has changed about me, Daisy. I hope you can start to see that. How are you feeling? Are you still bleeding anywhere? You aren't limping, so you're ankle is better, I hope? I can call the pack doctor if you need."
"No, I'm healing, and I don't think I need the doctor."
"Ok. I would like for you to get a check up by the end of the week." She nodded.
"Do you wanna work?" I asked her. Images of her in our home, greeting me when I was finished with a long day of work flooded my mind. I wanted to take her on dates and treat her well. Wanted her to enjoy herself.
"Do you want me to work?"
"Not what I asked Daisy."
"Not really. But I can. I work in the pack house right now, and I'm used to working. I don't want to be lazy."
"If you don't want to work, then you won't. I'll work and provide for the both of us."
"What are you going to do?"
"I'll work on the logging team, I've already thought about it and I'm sure I'll be needed there anyway as we get closer to winter. The pack needs the wood, and the money from selling it too."
"Isn't that, dangerous?" She was worried?
"It, uh, well, it can be. If you aren't in tune with your team, sometimes people can get really hurt when walkie talkies malfuntion or equipment fails. Thats why wolves are so good at it. We can communicate without the technology in case of an emergency. Besides, I'm probably going to be there routinely after I become Alpha anyway. The best leader works with his people."
"Ok."
"So we'll move isn't the cabin tonight. It's settled then."
She nodded. I couldn't help but wonder what I was going to do to help my mate trust me again.
