"Avery, please! You have to marry me! " a man pleaded on his knees, gripping the woman's arms tightly.
"Orwell, what is wrong with you? I told you it's too soon, let go of me!" Avery said, pulling away from her boyfriend's grasp. Her freckled arms felt sore and her cheeks burned with anger.
"Please Avery, please, you know I would die for you, Avery please you can't do this to me!" The young man begged, standing up. He was hysterical now.
"What do you not understand when I say it's too soon Orwell? Just leave me alone, it's only been two years!" Avery shouted, her blue eyes filling with rage. Orwell's sharp dark pupiled stare pierced through her, making Avery feel itchy.
"Please, Avery. I couldn't live with myself if I had to put a bullet through your skull." Orwell said, lowering his voice to whisper. Avery stared at her boyfriend's face, searching for some sign of a joke. All she found was fear. Silence surrounded the couple; the empty rundown park where they had spent their first date now felt unsafe and disturbed. The nostalgia of the rusty swings and washed-out plastic slide behind used to be a source of relief from adult worries for the freshly made adults.
"What? " She muttered, backing away.
"They'll make me do it, love, you know that. You know too much, and I won't hesitate." Orwell said, stepping closer. The tall lean figure pulled the red-headed girl closer. This time Avery did not speak; she stood frozen, staring into her boyfriend's face, eyes filled with pure fear. The now stranger before her kissed her hard on the lips, running his pale fingers through her long curls. Confusion settled in Avery's stomach, unsure whether to love or fear this man. She brought her hands to his straight black hair, clinging to his head.
"You knew this would happen. I warned you Avery not to get too deep, and now you can't leave. Please, just do us both this favour. Love, I would die for you. I promise I'll have two bullets loaded for the both of us."
"I'll marry you, " Avery said softly. "I have so much life left to live, why did you trap me, Orwell? If you truly loved me, you and I would have never gotten involved."
"I couldn't help loving you."
