If adrenaline could be bottled, I'd be rich enough to retire.
The air crackles with tension as we line up on the mountain plateau, floodlights slicing through early dawn mist. Below us: four lanes carved into dirt and chaos — each one representing an element.
Earth. Fire. Air. Water.
Four words that sound poetic until you realize they're just creative ways to suffer.
T.J. Lavin stands at the center like a general before war. "Welcome to The Challenge: Elemental Clash! This is your first challenge — The Elemental Gauntlet!"
He grins, that evil-but-endearing grin that means none of us are leaving here clean or dry.
"You'll dig, climb, balance, and swim your way through all four elements. Fastest team wins. Slowest team goes straight to elimination."
Groans, curses, and one nervous laugh (mine).
🎥 Confessional — Sienna
"They always make it sound easy. 'You'll just dig, climb, balance, and swim.' That's not a workout — that's trauma disguised as team-building."
She flashes a grin. "But hey, I'm a Chemistry teacher. I deal with explosions for a living."
"Earth team!" T.J. calls. "You're first!"
Kam turns to us, grinning. "Let's set the tone."
We line up — me between Leroy and Cory. The air hums with anticipation, and somewhere in the distance, a camera zooms close enough to catch the sweat on my forehead.
The horn blares.
Cory dives into the digging pit first, sand flying everywhere. Leroy joins him, methodical and calm. I jump in next — hands stinging, nails filling with grit — until thunk, my fingers hit something solid.
"I got it!" I shout.
Together, we drag out the buried puzzle piece — a massive wooden disk — and sprint toward the next zone.
🎥 Confessional — Kam (Team Earth)
"I didn't know what to expect from Sienna, but she's a machine. Cute, polite, and apparently allergic to losing."
Kam smirks. "Rookies like that are dangerous. In a good way — if they're on your team."
Next zone: Fire.
A maze of suspended bars above smoking barrels. Heat radiates upward.
Theresa's first. Smooth, controlled. Then Leroy. Kam waves me forward.
I grab the first bar, instantly regretting my life choices. The metal burns through my gloves. Halfway across, my hand slips —
Gasps.
I swing, catching the next bar by pure desperation. My muscles scream, but I make it to the platform and drop down, shaking, laughing breathlessly.
"See?" Kam yells. "Rookie fire!"
"More like spontaneous combustion," I shoot back, earning a cheer from the crowd.
🎥 Confessional — T.J. Lavin
"I don't usually say this on Day One, but Sienna? She's got guts. Nearly face-planted into fire and didn't blink. I like her already."
We crush the Air section next — a series of swaying planks high above ground. Marcus steadies me when the wind kicks up, and I cross without falling. Then comes Water.
