When Delilah was 3 months old Rory went back to work. Instead of sending their 3 month old to a daycare center, Rory and Logan chose to hire a babysitter who would watch Delilah at home.
In May Lorelai and Luke got married. Rory was a little nervous about the wedding since Richard and Emily would be there.
The morning before the day of the wedding Rory was sitting in the dragonfly with Lorelai, Sookie, Liz, and Lorelai was holding Delilah.
"Delilah" Sookie said. "Look over here"
"Del" Rory said and Delilah looked at her. "We don't actually call her Delilah so often. Usually it's either Del or noodle"
"Noodle?" Liz asked
"Yeah, when she was first born Logan said something about her being floppy like a wet noodle and now it's her nickname" Rory said
Sookie chuckled. "That's cute"
The conversation shifted back to the wedding, but at some point Rory's attention was shifted to the person walking through the door.
"You knew she was coming, right?" Lorelai asked Rory quietly.
Rory nodded and took Delilah from Lorelai just as Emily was walking over. Emily hugged Lorelai and greeted everyone except for Rory, who she ignored. Rory hadn't spoken to her grandparents in almost a year. They didn't know that she and Logan got married, and while it was obvious that the baby had to have been born by then, they didn't know she was a girl. And that day Delilah was just wearing a plain white onesie and little baby jeans so it wasn't obvious that she was a girl.
Lorelai was sitting next to Rory and she made sure that the conversation just continued. Rory and Emily had their issues but that wasn't the time our place for them to work it out.
As Rory was listening to the conversation, she could feel Emily staring at her...or at Delilah. Either way she didn't like it. She tried to keep her eyes on whoever was talking but even she couldn't anymore she finally looked over at Emily, she followed her line of sight to her left hand. On her left ring finger Rory wore her engagement ring but since getting married she also wore a wedding band. She didn't know why, but when she realized that that's what Emily was looking at she put her left hand in her lap, behind Delilah, keeping her right hand on the baby who was in her lap.
At one point Delilah started fussing so Rory took her outside and sat on the dragonfly's front porch with her. Rory and Logan had noticed that a lot of the time when Delilah was upset but didn't actually need anything, bringing her outside made her happy. Rory was focused on her daughter and didn't notice Emily standing by the door, watching her.
"Del, look at the birdies" Rory said. Their apartment in Manhattan was pretty high up so they rarely saw birds, and if they did it was pigeons. Even when they went out, any birds they saw were pigeons. "I don't think you've ever seen a bird like this".
Just then Rory's phone rang. She answered without checking caller ID and put the phone to her ear. "Rory Huntzberger" she said, thinking it was work.
"It's me, Ace" Logan said over the phone
"Hey, what's up?" Rory asked.
"Just checking in" Logan said. "What are you guys doing?"
"Well everyone else is inside, but Del and I are on the porch, looking at some birds"
"How was seeing your grandmother?"
"Better than I thought" Rory said
"That's good"
"Yeah, she just ignored me, which is good"
"You like that your grandmother is ignoring you?" Logan asked
