unrequited yearning

In shadows cast, she walked a lonely path,
A heart encased in walls, protecting from love's wrath.
She vowed to never love, to never feel the pain,
Until the right one came, her heart to unchain.

Ten times love found her, and ten times it fled,
Each break a scar, a piece of her heart dead.
Isolated, she withdrew, her spirit torn asunder,
Afraid to trust, to love, to let her heart's light thunder.

In solitude she sought solace, in her fortress made,
To shield herself from love's relentless cascade.
But in her isolation, a yearning deep inside,
A whisper of a dream she couldn't fully hide.

For love's a double-edged sword, a bittersweet refrain,
Bringing joy and sorrow, sunshine and rain.
Her heart, though scarred, still sought the gentle touch,
Of a love that might heal, and not hurt her as such.

In her solitude, a glimmer of hope did bloom,
A chance that love might lift her from the gloom.
Though love had hurt her, she couldn't help but crave,
The possibility of a love both gentle and brave.

Her story unfolds, a symphony of tears and strife,
A girl who dared to love, to embrace life.
In her isolation and pain, she found her way,
To love again, despite the scars, come what may.
