Vance and Bruce sat in the kitchen together, cooking dinner. "Man, this smells so good," Vance said, standing over the sauce he was making in the pan on the stove. "I wish I could have some for dinner."

"You can, Vance," Bruce replied, mixing a bowl of veggies.

"Uh, no I can't? I have to leave before your parents see me, remember?" Vance said, a little confused.

Bruce laughed softly, "no, I'm saying I could give you some to go."

Vance just nodded. And he was quick to dish himself some food. Then they heard car doors slam shut. "Shit, I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" Vance whispered running upstairs to grab his shoes and somehow make his escape.

Meanwhile, Bruce set the plates quickly on the table, his sister bringing the food and setting it in the middle. They sat down, acting as if they had just finished. "Hi, mommy!" Amy yelled, turning around as the door opened. "Hi dad!"

"Hi," Bruce nodded quietly at his parents whose smiles faded when they looked at him. Clearly they were still disappointed in him. Bruce just silently turned back, and stared down at the table. Only then did Amy notice the huge shift. Normally their parents were always praising Bruce, but ever since yesterday they have seem disappointed in him.

"Bruce, since you're in trouble we'd prefer you go up to your room," Their father said.

Amy, shocked, yelled, "no! Don't send him away."

"Amy, cut it out," Bruce whispered through clenched teeth.

But Bruce's parents shared a quiet look before sighing, "fine, but only for tonight, Amy." Amy and Bruce shared a small smile. "So..Bruce, why'd you decide to skip?" His father asked.

Bruce sighed deeply, "I told you, dad. This guy at school threatened to hurt me or my friends."

"Bullshit!" Their dad snapped, slamming his fists on the table. But his anger turned to shock. He watched as Bruce had flinched from his sudden action. When he usually yelled at Bruce, he had never flinched. This was new. Their father cleared his throat before saying, "my apologies."

Bruce and Amy shared a look before quietly eating their dinner. That was how the rest of dinner went. Nobody really uttered a word other than 'can you pass ____' or 'can I be excused?' And after excusing themselves, Amy and Bruce ran up to Amy's room.

"So is that truly why you skipped? How was it? What is detention like?" Amy started to question her older brother.

Bruce kinda sat there taking it in before answering, "uhh, well, no I didn't really enjoy skipping, but yeah I skipped because Moose threatened to hurt me or my friends." Amy just nodded, looking like she was taking deep mental notes. "And all I did in detention was talk to Vance a little, write a 'short' paper about why I was sorry for what I did, and then sat there the rest of the two hours."

"What did you and Vance talk about?" Amy asked.

Bruce glared at her, but answered, "he was mainly just annoying me so that I would tell him why I got in there."

"Sounds like him..but how did he and you end up friends?" Amy asked with curiosity,

"We walked home together...and he needed a place to stay, so I offered for him to stay the night and..." Bruce went on to explain the whole story to Amy. All the small details, even when they had gone up to the rooftop, but the only detail he skipped was the fact he smoked with Vance. He knew Amy would give him shit for smoking, so he decided to keep quiet.

Amy just nodded along. After all he had told her, she just expected him to stop. But at least she knew he was telling the truth. "So how do you plan on hiding this from mom and dad? You know they'd flip if they saw him even near the house."
