I wake up to my phone blasting its ringtone. Kganti, what time is it ? I reach for my phone and answer it without checking who's calling.
Me : Hello ?
??? :Hello, is this Mr. Monathane
Me : Yes . Who am I speaking to?
???: Sir, I'm calling from Netcare Linksfield Hospital. Your brother has been in a car accident, sir .
Tshego?? What ??
??? : Please come to the hospital as soon as possible.
Me : Okay . I'm coming.
Fucking hell. Tshego,eish. Is he okay. God just keep him alive please.
I jump out of bed and rush to the bathroom, I quickly freshen up and wear a black tracksuit set . I look for an Uber and I quickly request once I find one . How did he even get to Linksfield?
My car arrives and I ask the driver to hurry up and I'll pay him extra . When we get to the hospital, I pay him and jump out . I rush to reception and find an old lady behind the desk.
Me : Uhm Hello. I'm looking for Tshegofasto Monathane . They said he was brought in here from a car accident.
I don't know if she heard me because I'm rushing my words . My heart feels like it's about to explode.
Receptionist : Hello Sir . Are you his brother?
God..
Me : Yes I am .
Receptionist : Okay .Your brother is in surgery right now . Please sign these papers .
I sign the papers and ask her where I should go , she just points to the waiting area and I go sit down. I wonder if they called his wife. Let me just call her.
Me : Kedi hi.
Kedi : Tebogo why are you calling me at 6 a.m and where's Tshegofatso?
Me : Kedi it's Tshego...
Kedi : Tshego?
Me : Yes. He got into a car accident on his way back home . I got a call from the hospital and his in the ER.
Kedi : He what?
Me : If you can come over, please do.
Kedi : Okay. I'll call his parents so they can watch the kids .
Me : Okay.
I've been sitting here for the last 3 hours with no news . I just hope he'll make it. I can't lose him .
