Consumed by guilt

Two months  earlier

Kiara layed on the sand trying to sleep but she couldn't,
All she could think about was what had happened with JJ, how he had almost died
How it would've been her fault.
She was completely consumed by guilt.
With her thoughts racing she knew she couldn't sleep so instead of continuing to try
Knowing she would fail, she decided to go sit by the water.
She stood up and walked towards the ocean before sitting down, leaning backwards, all her weight held by her arms.
The sound of the water provided her with a small sense of comfort after a terrible day.
The water reminded her of home, hours of surfing with the boys
That was before all of this, before the gold, the cross
She wished it could all go back to the way it was
JJ almost died because of that cross, but because of her to
He got hit with that machete because she wasn't paying attention and
If JJ hadn't of jumped up she would have been hit
Maybe if she had been paying more attention she could have dodged it herself and JJ
Wouldn't of had to get hit for her,
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps in sand coming toward
Her back.
She turned around and saw JJ, he sat down beside her
"You can't sleep?" He asked.
"No, you?" She replied
"No, I can't sleep either, why can't you sleep"
"I'm cold" she said looking down, knowing that wasn't the real reason she couldn't sleep
"That's not the real reason is it" he questioned
"Yes, it is" she replied, pretending to sound frustrated.
"Come one kie, you can tell me what's going on, you know you can" he asked almost worried.
"It's just, I can't stop thinking about what happened on the coastal venture,
How you almost died, how it would've been my fault" she said, holding back tears of guilt.
"How would it've been you're fault" he asked, confused.
"Well, I wasn't paying attention so when that guy went to hit me with the machete and
You saw I wouldn't duck, you jumped up infront of me, and then when we were in the water after you got hit
I thought you were gonna die Jage, I though we were gonna die" she admitted.
"Kie, that wasn't your fault, like at all. You weren't the reason I almost died
You were the reason I survived." JJ said.
"I thought your were gonna die, JJ" she said, finally releasing the tears.
Before she knew it JJ had pulled her into his chest.
"It's okay kiara, I'm fine" he said, reassuringly
"I'm sorry" kiara said, sobbing at this point
"You don't need to apologise kie"
They stayed like this for a while, before kie pulled away.
Then they sat next to each other in silence for a moment,
Before kie broke the silence
"I'm gonna go to bed" she said, standing up
"Night" JJ replied
"Night Jage" she responded
"Oh, and kie" JJ said, slightly yelling so the wind wouldn't consume his voice
"Yeah?" Kiara asked
"I'm gonna make fun of you for this for the rest of our lives" he stated, attempting to lighten the mood.
Kiara giggled, "I'm sure you will"

Heyyy I just wanted to say sorry for the wait and
Nit writing since June lol, so here's a little chapter to hold you over
As I write the chapter after that cliffhanger from the last chapter.
