The sun was shining across the forest, and you could feel the warmth on your skin. After last night.. things changed between you two. You both felt closer and more intimate with each other, and your morning patrol together made it obvious to the rest of the team.
Ghost still stuck close to you. It almost seemed like he couldn't keep his hands off you, like he always wanted to be touching you. There was a faint smile on his lips, and his gaze was consistently on you.
Ghost stayed right beside you as you all gathered in a circle. Your bodies were almost touching, the warmth of his body felt good against your own. As you sat and listened to Price, Ghost's own attention was split between what Price was saying and looking at you. Your presence felt like something comforting and grounding in this wild, dangerous world.
Ghost's attention finally came back to Price. Even though the conversation at hand was important, the words mostly faded out as Ghost looked back at you.
"Our intel shows Cain is in this building." Price said, looking over everyone. He cleared his throat, eyes sharp. "We need to go in, and eliminate him and his brother."
"They're both here?" Gaz raised an eyebrow.
Price nodded.
Ghost kept his attention on Price, but his eyes still drifted over towards you in those moments when the conversation wasn't as intense.
The idea of a mission made Ghost's head fill with thoughts of the two of you making your way through the building.
Gaz's comment was met with a stern look from Price.
"We've been waiting for a chance like this. We'd be idiots to let this slip through our fingers."
Ghost kept quiet for a moment, letting Price's words sink in. After a moment, his eyes moved back towards you.
Soap nodded, stepping forward. "So what are we waiting on, then? What's the plan, Captain?"
Ghost stayed in his place, just slightly behind you. The mention of entering a building filled Ghost's mind with thoughts of you and the two of you in the building. What would you be wearing? Where would you go? What would happen in there?
Price moved to stand at the front of the group and began going over the plan. The talk about taking out Cain and Az was short, and it took Ghost a moment to realize that Price had actually concluded the briefing. The task force was already moving towards the building.
The team was slip up into groups. Ghost with Soap, Roach with Gaz, and Price with you.
You stood back and watched as Ghost argued with Price about not being by your side.
Ghost's words with Price were quiet but his expression said it all. Ghost had never once wanted to argue with Price before.
The idea of splitting up from you worried Ghost in some way that he couldn't describe. You kept your attention on them but it was hard to hear what Ghost and Price were saying.
If the two of you didn't stick together now, it might mean that you'd only see each other again after the mission was over.
Ghost turned his head towards you and looked down. His expression was one of anxiety.
This mission was important, but Ghost didn't want to risk anything happening to you. Ghost's mind was still filled with everything he'd seen on past missions, and the thought of you in danger was too much.
"Ghost," You called out softly, taking his hand. "It'll be okay."
"I don't want you to get hurt, love." Ghost spoke softly, leaning more of his body towards you. "Just want to make sure you're safe."
Ghost turned to stare at Price still holding your hand. The stress and anxiety was still obvious on his face. Ghost's mind was in the past now, in all the worst moments from his last mission. Price's words only made that worse.
"Please don't make us split up..." Ghost said softly. Price's words made Ghost's voice catch in his throat, and Ghost swallowed.
He pulled you a bit closer to him to try and convince Price to not split you two up. He didn't care how this looked from the outside, he didn't plan on keeping this a secret.
"Simon.." You whispered softly, turning his face to catch his gaze. You smiled up at him gently, and, knowing this would possibly cause you both to get into trouble, you leaned up and kissed him.
You poured all of my heart into the kiss, all of your emotion and reassurance.
Ghost finally found his voice again as your lips separated. The touch of your lips was still felt like an earthquake on Ghost's lips.
Your voice was like music to his ears, the confirmation that you would see him again and everything would be alright. Ghost took in a deep breath and nodded.
"Yeah... we'll see each other again. After this is all done." Ghost's reply was almost a promise, one that he meant with all his heart. In that moment, Ghost believed it completely.
Ghost's hand tightened around your hand one last time. But you both had work to do.
As you let go and stepped away from each other, he turned to Soap, the two of you beginning to move through the thicket along the tree line.
You both knew what you wanted to say, but now wasn't the time. You were focused on the mission, and you felt more assured with his touch.
As you both turned away, Ghost kept his gaze on you until you were out of sight.
