The morning sun gently kissed my face, rousing me from sleep with its warm embrace. A smile crept across my lips as I stretched, savouring the unfamiliar comfort of my new life. Determined to make sense of the whirlwind events of the previous day, I decided to start with a long, hot shower. The bathroom, lavishly appointed with an array of luxurious shampoos and shower gels, felt like a spa. As the warm water cascaded through my hair, I reflected on the rapid pace of change, much like the intense training sessions at the lab.

After drying off, I dressed in a long, elegant white corset-style top paired with sleek black jeans. It felt good to wear something that wasn't a uniform. I unlocked the bedroom door and headed downstairs, where the enticing aroma of breakfast wafted through the air. Santiago was already in conversation with Alexis, and they both turned to greet me with warm smiles.

"Hey Sage!" Alexis called out, running over to hug me.

Her embrace felt unusually tight, and I sensed something was off.

"I ate your breakfast..." she whispered conspiratorially into my ear.

I couldn't help but chuckle. Typical Alexis. As we separated, I turned to Santiago, who nodded in acknowledgment.

"Good morning," I said, smiling.

"Morning to you too," he replied with a nod.

Thus began my first day with my brothers. It was a strange, yet fascinating new reality. I spent most of the day in my room, chatting with Alexis, trying to piece together the puzzle of my past and present. The days passed quickly as I learned more about my new family. Santiago, ever the workaholic, seemed to have an unending list of tasks. Sebastian, an introvert, rarely spoke, preferring the quiet solitude of his own space. Sawyer was charming and likable, though he tended to be a bit controlling. Spencer was gentle and kind, but also timid. The twins, Saul and Sullivan, were incorrigible pranksters, always up to some mischief.

Noir, whom I had learned was the son of another mafia community and a close friend of Spencer's, was often around. His winsome personality made him a favourite among my brothers, and I found myself enjoying his company as well. Despite their busy schedules, my brothers were often away on "missions," leaving me to spend most of my time with Alexis and occasionally with Noir.

One day, Noir and I decided to take a stroll through the streets of Canada. It felt liberating to be outside, exploring a world that was previously off-limits to me. My brothers had always been insistent that we stay close to the mansion, a precaution that now seemed more suspicious than ever.

"Just curious, what did you do in the lab?" Noir asked as we walked.

"Mostly training and reading," I replied. "I spent a lot of time talking to Alexis."

He shook his head, a sympathetic smile on his lips. "Jeez... you missed out on so much!"

Our conversation was abruptly cut off by the sound of gunshots. My heart raced as we rushed to the source of the noise, only to find my brothers on the porch, laughing. Santiago was shooting at the grass, apparently proud of his aim.

"You did well, Santa!" Sawyer praised him, clapping him on the back.

"I know I did," Santiago responded, his voice laced with satisfaction.

It wasn't until they noticed me standing there that the mood shifted. The laughter died down, replaced by a heavy silence.

"Sage..." Spencer began, his voice hesitant.

I felt a wave of devastation wash over me. The guns they used... were they the same ones they used to rescue me? The reality of my situation hit me like a ton of bricks. I turned on my heel and fled to my room, my eyes stinging with unshed tears.

Once inside, I collapsed onto the bed, the weight of my confusion and sorrow pressing down on me. What had I gotten myself into? The knock on the door startled me.

"Sage, can we talk?" Spencer's voice was soft, almost pleading.

I wiped away my tears, knowing he would come in regardless. As he entered, followed closely by Sawyer, I felt a sense of betrayal but also a longing for answers.

"I know it's hard to see us like this..." Spencer began, but I turned my head, unable to face him.

Sawyer took a seat beside me, his expression full of regret. "I'm so sorry, Sage," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "Our parents... they were involved in the mafia. After we lost them, their last wish was for us to end this mafia hierarchy."

Spencer moved closer, his eyes searching mine for understanding. "We never wanted to involve you in this. We thought keeping you safe meant keeping you away from all this."

My emotions were a whirlwind, torn between anger and a deep, unsettling sadness. But as I looked at them, and saw the genuine remorse and concern in their eyes, I felt a strange sense of calm. They were my brothers, and despite everything, I knew they cared.

"It's okay not to forgive us, Sage," Sawyer murmured, his voice barely audible.

I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment. "IT'S OKAY!" I blurted out, surprising even myself with the force of my conviction.

They both looked at me, stunned, as if not expecting my forgiveness. "What was there for you to forgive us?" Sawyer asked, his voice tinged with sorrow.

"Everything," I replied, my voice steady. "You brought me back to my home, to my family. Despite everything, you're my brothers, and I'll stand by your side."

A slow smile spread across Spencer's face, and Sawyer's expression softened. At that moment, I felt a sense of belonging, a connection that transcended the chaos of our circumstances. They both pulled me into a hug and for the first time, I felt like I was truly home.
