Dorne was a small country in the most southern part of Westeros which was said to be the home of the most carefree. However, one would not describe its present ruler as so. Doran Martell, the ruling prince of Dorne, the Lord of Sunspear serious and pensive man. While his youngest brother, Prince Oberyn Martell lived a life of hedonism.
The two brothers who were polar opposites, sat across each other as they watched the distant storm clouds brewing on the horizon, heading towards the north of Westeros where their sister's family resided. The whole continent was at the brink of war, a fight between the House Baratheon and the House Targaryen. The seven kingdoms were now being divided, choosing sides.
House Baratheon was allied to House Stark. House Tyrell chose to remain neutral And although House Tully and House Arryn were said to choose to remain neutral as well, only a fool would believe so. Lady Catelyn Stark, wife of Lord Ned Stark, belonged to House Tully. Her sister, Lyssa Arryn, was married to Lord Jon Arryn, and despite not having the closest relationship with her sister, the House Tully always have maintained a strong, united front when it comes to making political decisions. They were only waiting for a tipping point to declare their allegiance to Robert Baratheon. Everyone's eyes were now on the House Targaryen.
Despite knowing that choosing to remain neutral was the best decision as well for their kingdom, Doran Martell had no choice but to pick a side. He could never abandon their beloved little sister. Elia Martell has sacrificed so much for the benefit of their kingdom. Dorne will stand by the side of House Targaryen in the end. They will not abandon her.
Doran Martell, once again glanced at the letters on his hand. One sent by their sister and the other one surprisingly from their niece. "Did you believe our sister, when she wrote to us that her first born child was a genius?"
"Every good parent thinks their child is special, more so for their firstborn," Obery Martell chuckled in reply, swirling the glass wine in his hand.
"Indeed," Doran smiled, nodding in agreement. "We are no different from her when we first hold our own firstborn child. You in particular were more exaggerated than Elia and I," the Lord of Sunspear added pointing his finger towards his brother.
"There is no exaggeration," Prince Oberyn exclaimed, raising his arms in a grand gesture. "All my daughters are beautiful and smart, much like their mothers. I spoke only the truth. Why would my children be anything less, when I am the one who fathered them after all?"
"You are an overly doting father, Oberyn. All of Dorne knows this," Doran rolled his eyes, laughing at his brother's foolish display of narcissism. "Hence, I did not pay much heed when our sister claimed her daughter, Princess Rhaenys to be a genius. You and Elia were more similar to each other. I would not be surprised to discover her to be overly doting to her daughter as well." He picked up the report he received from King's landing which spoke about the current condition of his Princess Elia and her children. "When Elia claimed Princess Rhaenys is a genius, I thought she meant that the child was simply a fast learner, compared to other children."
"Many find it unbelievable too," Oberyn added, taking the report of his brother's hands and flipped through the papers. "The other kingdoms think that it was you and Elia who planned and advised the young princess with her surprising performance during the King's banquet."
Doran shook his head, "We both know it was not me, nor Elia and her unfaithful husband who planned it."
"Nor was it me and Lewyn," replied Oberyn. "We both know our brother is a better fighter than a strategist. That is why he joined the king's guard."
"Do you really think a child of only five years could think of such an ingenious plan?" Doran asked. "That young princess had managed to defend our sister when we could not. She was able to dispel all the slanderous rumors about her being Rhaegar's abandoned wife. She even managed to finally obtain recognition of the Mad King who had always scorned her for being half-Dornish, and ensure her mother and grandmother will be honored forever, while also opening a steady stream of income for Dorne. All of this, she has done just by making a crown of flowers that grew in our land."
