Chapter 9

I felt a gust of wind hit my skin causing me to shiver. I realized that I was put to bed from the night before. I pull the blankets tighter around me only to result in me punching myself in the face.
"Ow!" I whined, sitting up in my bed. My window was open which was strange. I never have the window opened. As I rubbed the self-inflicted bump on my head, something clashed against my skin. I opened my palm to see I had my sisters bracelet.
"It wasn't a dream," I whisper to myself. I touched every charm on it and realized that now she didn't have her bracelet or her necklace. How was I supposed to know who she was? These were the only things I had to recognize her this time. I got out of the bed, knowing Tom must've brought me home, and went to get my camera. I slipped in a new SIM card before placing it around my neck.
"Violet where are you going?" Nathan questioned, stepping out of his bedroom. I need a new lie, a new act. He knew everything I had used to manipulate him already. It couldn't be anything he was shocked with.
"She's going to the ghetto, but don't worry she's only going to check out a house that she and Tom discovered," Veronica said nonchalantly, suddenly appearing next to me. I glared at her for spilling the truth of my direction. She shrugged as if it hadn't been any big deal, but at least she didn't say it was about Jessica. Nathan would've dragged me to see Dr. Anderson again. I was tired of having to explain my every movement or action or thought. I heard a car horn and, with a confused look, went to see who it was out the window. Thomas was waving out the window of his car, so I waved back.
"Distract Nathan please," I whispered to Veronica as we were all walking to Tom.
"Okay, but I need to know what you're doing," she whispered back. I ignored her out of spite for what she had done, but I knew she was mostly doing this for the fact that I have not been acknowledging her.  I knocked on the window of the car for Tom to roll it down.
"I'm going to the house. Meet me there soon okay?" I tell Thomas. He just looked at me with a confused expression but nonetheless nodded as he handed me a gun.
"Just in case," he whispered. As quickly as I had finished talking to him, I was in front of the old abandoned home. I walked toward it first while I took pictures of the home. This was still a criminal investigation. I needed to obtain all the possible evidence that I could. I was going to open the door when the light is turned on. I crouch and take a deep breath.
"Come on," I beckon to myself.
"You can do this." I try to be as quiet as possible when I hear the floor creak I freeze. I could hear noise coming from the basement, but if I took a step with my shoes down the stairs then they would creak. I learned this from the last time that we were here. In a swift movement, I took off my shoes. I made my way downstairs as quickly as I could until the sight of a girl with brown hair took over my speed. She was towering over my sister and I started to panic. I felt my hands start to sweat, I felt my legs start to sweat, I felt every crevice of my body start to sweat. I didn't think I would see anything like this so soon. So quickly. So out of nowhere. I took a double take because I wasn't sure. That had to be Jessica, it was a gut feeling of familiarity. I stayed behind the door, making sure that they both couldn't see me. I waited for Tom to come around. He had to be here for this, I couldn't do this alone. Where was he when I needed him? There were whispers exchanged of a conversation that I couldn't understand. I could hear a whimper echo through the basement which made me wipe the sweat off my forehead, so I peeked through the door crack seeing the girl's hand go back...
     "NO!"

I ran through the door hearing footsteps behind me. I could see the intention from a million miles away. No one should hit anyone the way that I knew she was going to do. The thought of someone hurting my sister was killing my soul; my heart broke silently as the woman moved away, revealing my hurt sister. I faced the woman to hear a gasp behind my back knowing it would be Thomas.
"Hello Violet," her voice spoke wickedly, but I recognized it. The smooth voice that could seduce any man or woman. The one who I had trusted for so long. I looked past her only concerned with Jess's safety. She looked up, her blue eyes meeting mine that made me smile. I hadn't seen her in such a long time, three years of not seeing her, but I knew it was her. It had to be. My gut was right, but so it was proven that Veronica's was as well. I stood not being able to speak, frozen in my spot until I heard more running.
