THE ONE

CHAPTER 3

"What did she say?"

"Oh, um.. she whispered to someone and said "who is that girl and why does she always have a hat on, I bet she's bald"

"Why would she say that, she's a selfish girl who doesn't care about anyone. Just know that I care about you"

"Thanks Elan, I'm glad to hear that"

We walked outside of the school and I spotted a pizzeria

"Elan can we go to the pizzeria across the street?"

"Sure"

We walked across the street and sat down, we ordered two slices of pizza and two drinks. After we were finished we stared at each other for a while. I decided to break the silence.

"So Elan, tell me a little bit about yourself"

His eyebrows stroke up as if he was surprised

"Well, I think you're pretty"

Those words shocked me, my cheeks turned red and I stayed quite for a second.

"Well thanks, but I said about yourself"

He laughed.

"I want to play in the schools basketball team"

"But aren't basketball tryouts next week?"

"Yes they are but I feel like I won't get in"

"Don't say that, you just have to put your mind to it"

"Thanks Jess"

"Now can you please tell me about yourself?"

"Okay, okay, I lived in Russia for four years then I moved here because my mom wanted a better future for herself and I."

"Aww well that's good"

"Oh, and my favorite color is blue"

"Well that's cool"

"Okay Jess, it's your turn"

"Well.. My favorite color is pink, I want to be a doctor when I grow up and I have stage two cancer"

I couldn't believe those words came out of my mouth.

His eyes widened.

"What?!"

"Yes Elan, I have stage two cancer and I only have three months to live"

"You what?"

"Yes Elan, this is all true, I can't keep this from anyone anymore"

"Wait, so how are you feeling? Is there anything I could do?"

He looked worried and I began to cry.

"Don't cry Jess you will be fine and I promise you you will get through this one way or another"

"Thanks Elan"

I went straight to hug him, I began to cry in his arms and I kind of felt a sign of relief because people know now.

"So this explains why you have a hat on, don't wear those damn hats, your beautiful either way"

"Elan thank you for your kind words but I don't know how i 'm going to get through this"

I wiped my tears from my eyes and took my hat off.

"This is the real me"

"You look beautiful either way, and no one can tell you other wise Jess"

I smiled because I felt happy that this is all out now and I don't have to hide anymore
