It had been hours since you'd been in town as you travel north. Even without a map you still knew how to use cardinal directions to your advantage and at least with some semi-accuracy estimate where you were from the rough terrain typography. You weave through the trees quickly as you make your own path through the brush. The little girl's sad eyes still lingered in your head and you were forced to continuously shake the thoughts out. You move up the incline as your pace slows... Not too many hills local to where you started, the outskirts of the Chemical Plant mostly flattened by aggressive land development. The fumes and toxic soil was enough to drive you away way back then, and the bitter memories kept you from ever returning. Things were easier when you were able to study in the Dragon Kingdom and actually pursue something you thought to be worthwhile... At least until that went up in smoke too. You shake your head again with more force, your pleading eyes asking the thoughts to go away and give you the peace you'd been trying to find.
But of course your peace still wouldn't come.
The forest clears atop the hill, a crisp breeze chilling your nose as you take a breath. Stunning looking out from here, the valley opening up into hills of green and checkered soil seeming to be stacked up as if they were building blocks. You had heard tale of this place but this was the first time being here in person. So this was Green Hill? The winding paths and natural waterfalls stupefy you with their geometry. There's no way this was a naturally occurring nature phenomena- Though if a hedgehog with Sonic's speed could be born into this world then whose to say that this would be impossible, right?
Green Hill... Wasn't it located on an island? South Island-? If that was the case then you were way too far east. You scratch at your neck pensively- What was that-? You dig in your fur and yank firmly, pulling out a tuft along with what looked like a small mechanical tick. You squinted down at it as a small red light blinked on it. The doctor put a tracker on me-? Why would he have the need? I've never given him a reason to be so cautious... I- I never gave him a reason to be cautious...
You crush the device between your fingers, baring your teeth. You had been tricked, no wonder Somic and Tails didn't seem to care about watching you. There's a rustling behind you, Tails walking out of the brush carrying a tablet device. He slips it into his backpack before his bright eyes look up to you. "You found that way sooner than I thought you would, I'm impressed!"
You assume a battle stance, scanning the surroundings expectantly waiting for Sonic to jump out and attack now that you discovered their scheme. "Of course it's you, fox. I knew both of you were being way too lenient with your enemy- It was because it didn't matter where I went, you would be able to track me either way. I would regroup with Eggman and lead you right back to him."
Tails tilts his head gently, "Eggman? Don't you mean 'The Doctor?' I had my suspicions but I think they're true now aren't they? You don't even like Eggman, let alone respect him. I saw how you looked when we brought up the explosion, and how quickly you tried to change the subject." You scream internally, chastising yourself for being so easy to read.
"You know nothing, fox. The Doctor is a brilliant man and he will bring about a new age of technology and revolution." You can feel your brows tense, the words almost feeling like poison as you encourage the tyrant's attempts at world conquest. "You're only wasting your time opposing him, it's only a matter of time before he puts all of you in the dirt for good. You should wise up before that happens."
Tails' expression hardens quietly, his eyes jittering as he thought. "I know you're educated enough to know that's not something that would ever happen for several reasons. Eggman would try to get rid of us for good regardless of whether we surrender or not. He's fixated on two things: Global conquest and getting us out of the picture."
