Chapter 10
His POV
I swatted my brother's hand away as he stabbed me with another needle while attempting to pin the fabric to my body.

"Quit being such a baby!" He scolded as he tried to find the difference between my skin and the satin fabric he was attempting to make into a dress shirt.

I had skipped my morning workout for this. For some reason, Sonny felt it necessary that I look nice for this event. So he insisted on making me a new shirt which just meant I had to find time to cram in my workout between this, writing a stupid essay for Hammon's, and dinner.

Beatrice snickered as Sonny stabbed me again. What I did to deserve this torture, I am not quite sure. "Can't I just wear one of the outfits you already made me?" I hold onto my sister's cat, who has chosen now is the best time to climb up my chest and use my neck as a bed. I keep her from falling as she curls herself around the back of my neck, smacking me in the face with her tail. I had been against the car from the start, and now my siblings wouldn't let me live it down, now that I was her favorite and practically let her do whatever she wanted.

"No!" They both yelled at the same time.

"This is important, Klaus!" My little sister chucked a penguin stuffie at my head. It nailed me straight in the forehead, and instead of picking it up and throwing it back to her, I had to gently pick it up, and hand it to her, because it was a gift from her boyfriend when he left for college, and I wasn't allowed to hurt it. Which only meant that she could abuse me with it as much as she pleased and I couldn't do a thing about it.

The thing was hideous, matted and so worn out you could hardly tell it was even a penguin. But she loved it, and slept with it every night. Which meant on nights she crashed in my room, because neither of us could sleep, I usually ended up with that thing on top of my face. "I know this is important, but important enough for a new shirt?"

Sonny glared at me. "Yes! Because someone so rudefully let a woman tear the buttons off the pristine shirt I so graciously spent hours making."

He had me there. Somewhere in the midst of that night on the patio, she had managed to tear three buttons off my shirt. I had been too distracted to notice until after. Sonny was not happy to find the brand new shirt he'd sewn me was already ruined. I never was able to find the buttons. Somewhere in the yard of the frat house.

The reminder of the women I slept with brought a blanch to Bea's face. I knew exactly what she was thinking. "I know, I know, Ten Commandments." The First Commandments of the siblings contract, 'thou shall not sleep with the friend of thy sister'. I'm not sure what the other nine commandments are but, only having one seemed strange. So we went with ten, making up others along the way like no eating the last slice of birthday cake, and always text when you're not coming home for the night.

She did not seem convinced, staring at me like I murdered her puppy. "Beatrice! It's been like two years since that happened." I defended, adjusting my neck, which began to ache from the weight of her cat, but not enough to disturb the kitten. She was too content for me to even think about moving her, no matter how much pain I was in.

Bea threw her hands up. "It still happened!"

It was not a moment I was entirely proud off. When we first moved to some random town when we were kids, before we were old enough to get our own place, before Sonny could get emancipated, I started going to the gym, constantly. We didn't go to school at that time, so I spent all day at the gym, until I was so exhausted I could barely move. Before I knew it, I wasn't a twig anymore, and I could lift more than just the weight of my math text book. A growth spurt and two months later, and I was suddenly strong enough to protect my family, be 'the man of the house' as my father would have put it. And with this came the attraction of women, something I hadn't had much experience with before. So when one of Beatrice's friends threw herself at me, I couldn't say no, but when I didn't text her, she took her anger out on Bea. And suddenly girls began to befriend her just to get to me.

It was not a moment I was terribly proud of. If I could go back and change it, I would. Bea never really made friends after that, tucking herself away in her books, until she met her best friend, who I finally get to meet after a year. I wouldn't ruin this one for her. They clicked the instant they met, like they were made for each other. "I promise, I will not sleep with her."

She stared me, her eyes baring into my soul. "You better not break that promise. I really like this one, Klaus."

I raised my hands in surrender as Sonny took out a chunk of my skin with a pin. "I promise, Bea. Hands off this one, okay."

"She's my only friend, Klaus. You can't mess this up."

Sonny snickered, like he didn't quite have faith in me. It didn't seem fair he got to meet her well before I did. "I won't. Bea, I promise, I will not sleep with your friend."

"No sleeping, no flirting, no touching, don't even look at her for too long."

I smirked. "Are you that afraid she's gonna fall madly in love with me from one look?" A searing pain shot through my arm as my skin and the cotton fabrics became one at the hands of my brother. His smile let me know it was most certainly intentional. Bea's cat hissed at my little brother as if to defend me and he practically hisses back, ready to throw hands with an animal less than an eighth his size. Sonny had begged me to let us take in the kitten. Turns out they don't get along as well as he'd hoped.

Bea sighed, standing from the bed and walking towards me to pull the needle from my skin, and cover the wound with a tissue. "Careful he'll get blood on your satin." She laughed as Sonny's eyes widened in horror.

Standing on her tiptoes, she smoothed out my hair which had become unruly from the cat. "And with your track record, Klaus, a little bit, yeah. How could I not be worried?"

The left corner of my lip lifted in a soft smile. "I promise you, I will not seduce your friend." I don't think I could even if I tried. She seemed too loyal to ever betray Bea in that way.

"Good. Now excuse me while I go figure out what we are eating for tonight." Bea kissed the underside of my chin and the top of Sonny's head. "Te quiero."

And as she left, I swallowed down my guilt at the sight of her slippers in 90 degree weather.
