Chapter 14
Al's POV
"Sir, it might be presumptuous of me to ask you this... " then I took a deep breath before continuing, fully knowing what my words would mean. "But for the children that you are carrying... Do you want to marry me?"
"$&%*#^%&*^#*%!?!?!?!" It was the first time I heard someone cursed while still maintaining his aristocratic accent. I just stared at him in slight disbelief, still processing the series of curses that I heard. Maybe he was exposed to the army somehow? Maybe his personal guards talk crassly? But before I could ponder further, a fist hit me in the face, quite hard at that.
The back of my head thudded against the carriage. And I was in utter disbelief. I heard an exclaim of concern from the coachman, but only for a quick moment, as I saw the blond preparing to strike again. I don't know if he misunderstood my intentions, but he was seething with rage.
"Whoa! Whoa! Wait, please! PLEASE!" I exclaimed in an almost panicked demeanor, throwing my arms up in surrender and trying to back off as much as I could despite me already as far away as I could be from him inside the carriage.
"Look here, buddy... I don't know you. We've barely talked and known each other for less than a day. Don't come at me so presumptuously, and try to put figmental significance of your inconsequential existence into my life as you please. You don't know my story and you don't know me. Don't try to make up little stories in that inadequate brain of yours and assume your conclusions are on the mark. Don't test my patience... I will remind you. I am a pregnant fire mazoku. I am as short tempered as can be." he was glaring at me hard.
"And just to inform you, I am a trained soldier, holding position in the capital's army and the Bielefeld's navy. Me hitting you square in the face is NOT by any means a coincidence." he added as he crossed his arms, still glaring at me.
"I get it... sorry... I'm sorry. Please calm down. It's not good for the baby for you to be so angry and stressed out. Nor would it be good for you to engage in fist fights.... BUT! But... I wasn't trying to offend you or anything... nor am I trying to take advantage of your situation." I tried to coax him into chilling out.
"I just thought that your ex was a piece of shit and that you needed someone to be there for you in your most delicate and vulnerable state. I'm not trying to be frisky, I'm not the kind of douchebag who would lay a hand on a pregnant person. I was serious when I offered marriage though. I thought you needed someone to introduce to your father side of the family to be your partner. As you said, you don't want your twins to be branded as illegitimate children. I'm willing to accept and father them. Although you might not take my word seriously, as you said, we don't know each other. But of course, if you don't want to. I won't force you. It was just an honest suggestion, no underlying intentions. I swear. And yes, I deserved that punch. No hard feelings! " And with this the intensity of his glare subsided slowly and he sighed.
There was a long pause as he stared out the window. Then he said, "You getting mixed up in my business will not only spell trouble for you, but also for your family. You want to be in the national newspaper?"
"Eh?" a very unintellectual response was all I could force out. He sighed yet again, as if he was talking to a child who doesn't know the world we live in work. And to think that I am obviously older than him.
He patted the seat beside him, as if saying he wants me to come closer. I laughed nervously at the gesture and looked at him as if he was serious. He looked me dead in the eye and then looked slightly above me and mouthed, "I don't want him to hear."
I nodded as I understood, but I still cautiously sat beside him. His punch hurt a lot, more than I can expect from someone his build... and from someone pregnant like him. I guess one really can't judge a book by its cover.
"I intended not to burden you with this information so you can go on with your normal life after this carriage ride, but you're getting too comfortable and sticking your nose where it's not supposed to be." he said in a soft but very serious tone, making me anxious about what I've gotten myself into. "What was my name again?" he asked.
"Uh... Wolfram?" I replied nervously, thinking I might mess up his name.
"Yes... And where am I headed?" he asked me again about something he told me a while ago.
"The Bielefeld lands..." and it seems like he's trying to make a point, but right now, I'm just too nervous that my brain is short circuiting.
"Okay... then, do you know anyone at all named Wolfram? It's not a very common name." he probed.
"Uh..." I tried to think of someone... but no one's really coming to mind. Then after like half a minute or so, I thought of someone. "Uhh... the former maou's youngest prince?"
'Oh! You thought of that. How commendable. You were taking forever, you see. Now, what is the full name of the youngest prince?" he asked another question.
"Well, Wolfram von Bielefeld..." I replied. Then he looked at me like trying to push me a bit more.
"Connecting any pieces together?" he coaxed even further. Then it hit me like a raging wild stallion. I slowly turned my head to look at him wide-eyed. Then he said with a smile, "oh... did something finally click?"
"Uh... Your highness?" I was on edge. Thinking of how big of a daredevil I was , trying to flirt with someone of high importance the first moment I laid my eyes on him.
"Oh! Great, you got that... Now, in line with that thought, who do you think was my fiancé? You know... frankly, the father of my twins?" he asked in an innocent yet playful tone.
"The current Maou." I answered.
He patted me in the back twice, seemingly satisfied that the information finally dawned on me. "Okay, you may return to your seat." he said.
I did return to where I was seated, and sat there staring at nothing at all. I mean who am I kidding, I am someone from an unknown family, who basically can't fight well and has little connection in high society. We're not really that wealthy compared to the ten aristocratic families. And my looks really can't make up for the lack of other qualities I must possess to even dare propose marriage to someone of his stature. He was way out of my league. I looked back at him and he already fell asleep once more.
I sighed deeply and just thank Shinou that I really didn't dare kiss him when he first slept defenselessly in front of me.

A/N: Hi, sorry for only uploading now. Like I said in my post, I had a problem logging in one of my accounts, why I couldn't post for a while. And I've been really busy too. I started my review for my licensure exam, and the review center is too costly, it's Php 16,500. I'm trying to find a way to earn money right now so I can't really focus on writing and uploading.
