In all her life Kayla had never known elation. But as she leaned back on her seat in the limousine, she felt it. She was it.
She didn't want the day to end, but she knew it had ended. Days ended and other ones came. That was life. She was bracing herself about going home when she noticed that Ivan had other plans.
"Where are you taking me now?" Kayla actually whined when their limousine stopped in another brightly lit street. But this time, they were in the middle of the very busy side of the city. With crowds of people rushing through the sidewalks and cars racing on the roads. "This is too much for one day."
"Relax, girl. We're just going to eat. You haven't had anything since that burger you ate in the evening. You must be starving." Ivan helped her out of the limousine, but this time Ryan wasn't waiting for them. Instead, Ivan covered her shoulders with a coat, she hadn't even seen him get, before he led her towards one of the many skyscrapers in that street.
Her heels clicked on the pavements as Ivan again, put his hand a small distance from the small of her back protectively. She had long realized that he was deliberating keeping himself from touching her. But what he didn't know was that her hypersensitive body felt every movement he made as if he was actually doing them on her.
It was frustrating, how his scent was all she could smell and his warmth all she could feel. He had promised her that he wouldn't make things awkward between them, and she could feel it in the way he tensed and fisted his hands when they were that close to each other, just how hard he was trying.
The issue was, it might not even be him who would end up making things awkward between them. Every second next to him made her feel like she was going to flip and do something she shouldn't. Like grab his face and kiss him.
He's Angela's boyfriend.
She drilled into her head for the hundredth time that day. It didn't matter that he had almost kissed her twice that day. He was with Angela and he loved her. Or else he wouldn't be with her. Only love could keep a guy like Ivan with a girl like Angela. Kayla needed to respect that.
They walked into one of the buildings and Ivan led them into an elevator and pressed the number 89. They elevator doors closed and there they were. Trapped in another small, closed space, alone. Kayla inhaled a groan.
Why did she have to be a werewolf? Why did she have to experience everything a thousand times deeper than everyone?
Ivan was standing in the far corner of the cube, but it was like he was right next to her. Caressing her with his vitality, bathing her with his scent, and touching her with the thundering of his heart.
Every fiber in her coerced her to turn around and close the distance between them. She was literally trembling to... But she couldn't. Not when she knew that he was fighting as hard as she was.
What was it about today that made things so charged up between them? Things had never been awkward between them. Why were they now? Was it because they were both dressed up? Was it because it was the first night they were alone together?
Would it be better when they met at school tomorrow in a crowd of his kind of people?
When a ping sounded and the elevator doors slid open, they exhaled in unison and welcomed the chilly but fresh breeze. But Kayla was the first to walk out and gasp in awe.
The sight before her taking her breath away.
The first thing her eyes landed on was a yellow-green natural but modern set up before her. There plants and flowers were growing on the ground, on the glass walls surrounding the area, and on the wooden pillars all around.
