The door dinged once again and I was starting to become irritated by the constant noise. I was sick of being in this cafe but I didn't exactly have a choice when this poor excuse of a human requested that we meet up here to talk about business. I personally hated working with the humans when it came to business but it was my late father that had made the decision to approach them in hopes of incorporating a more humanitarian view to our workings. I personally didn't think it was necessary but then again I am the one making it... not so humanitarian.
Another ding came from the door and I felt my wolf take control for a hot second, digging my nails into the leather of the couch until I smelt a scent of sweet rose eminating from the door as it lingered in the breeze. It was heavenly. I saw the world's greatest beauty walk through the door. My wold growled " mate" softly, trying not to alert the measly humans of a foreign presence... not that they could do anything even if they wanted to. I blocked out the sound of the human that was going on and on about some boxes that should be ticked before it is established that death to the victim is absolutely necessary.
I saw my mate move her gaze to the old woman shuffling across the cafe to her, embracing her in what seemed to be a warm but rather suffocating hug. In that moment, Mate's face changed from miserable to the most beautiful radiant smile. Her features were soft and her nose had began to turn a rosey pink in the cold autumn air. If she was in my care I would have bundled her up in scarves and mittens before burying her in my jacket with me. The thought of her finding warmth in the comfort of my chest made my heart melt in a way I never thought it would. For once I felt less like a predator and more like a protector. Her eyes were a deep ocean blue that seemed to grow shy as she noticed much of the room watching her interaction with the cafe owner. She began to sink into the lady and I could tell that she felt slightly exposed when the woman pulled away. How I wish I could guard her from everyone's pressing gaze.
I watched them move across the cafe before disappearing behind a bookshelf. My wolf was tense, disappointed that we had lost sight of mate but I fought him to remain still in this chair that began to grow uncomfortable.
Moments went by as my wolf grew impatient. I tried to bury my urges, aware that she was human. I could smell it. She smelt of cinnamon, nutmeg and a hint of vanilla. It was such a rich scent but no lingering scent of wolf. I don't mind that Mate is human. The moon goddess intended my life to go this way. She must be perfect if the moon goddess made me wait this long to find her. On the other hand, the long wait only made my wolf more eager to take the opportunity and claim my mate.
Moments passed as I tapped my foot against the polisher wooden floor of the cafe. Patience isn't a characteristic an Alpha is expected to possess; nor self control. Voices in the cafe merged together and before long I saw her tiny frame scuttle across the cafe floor and into the kitchen. I sensed an element of anxiety in her being. Mate came out of the kitchen once again carrying a tray with my food, her focus entirely consumed by the floor. I watched her approach my table until her eyes gradually snapped up to be met with mine. Her orbs flickered in an anxious motion. You knew that if she was standing still in front of you she would be shifting her feet and twiddling her fingers.. so cute and mine.
Exchanging the plates between the table and the tray, our eyes remained drawn to each others. She looked me up and down, her attention still on me but too awkward to be fixed in eye contact
"Thank you."
She gulped before nodding in response."Anything else, Sir?"
Oh dear lord - such a name elicited a feeling in my boxers that should not happen in a bloody cafe. She turned around swiftly before shuffling away. She was so cute and I admired her little form running away like my prey ... that was until she crashed into some bimbo blonde bitch with a stick up her ass.
You could tell from a mile away that she was one of those pick me girls that every decent man will avoid like a rash. It all made sense when I looked to her right and saw a boy in a tracksuit. He was about 18 but dressed like a kid in clothes designed for a treadmill. Clearly he didn't quite understand that. I will never understand the fashions of today.
The stupid blonde bitch spoke up loudly, attempting to embarrass Mate in front of the whole cafe. I had enough. Mate rolled her eyes as soon as she laid eyes on the other bitch. That is how I knew they were familiar with each other. I got out of my seat and scooped my girl off the floor.
A stream of profanities left her mouth from surprise.
"Mind your language little one. Such words shouldn't leave a mouth as pretty as yours."
She bit her lip and I felt that same feeling in my boxers.. only ten times worse than with any other girl in the past. She buried her face in my neck before snapping her head back as if her reaction to the mate bond wasn't normal. Of course she had no idea about it all."Are you okay there little one?"
Her legs clenched together and I smirked at her reaction. I placed her back on her seat behind the bookshelf by the fireplace. Grabbing napkins from the table, I began to dab down the ketchup from her trousers - her eyes still not leaving mine. My hand moved further up her leg, innocently wiping off the sauce. I already care for her so much. My mind went nowhere else in that moment but she hadn't quite realised what I was doing I was waiting for her to take the towel so she could do it herself she eventually realised an dripped the napkin out of my hand and wiped the rest off hastily.
" I have to go back to school. Now."
Flustered, she ran out the door in a hurry, shouting to the old lady on the way out.
