"you're like, actually whipped," karl laughs, locking his locker. foolish sends a playful glare to the other boy as he locks his own.

"why are you acting like this is new news?" he jokes along, though it isn't really a joke. he pulls on his second coat as they both go to make their way out of the back room of the café. "he's my boyfriend, i'm allowed to be a little obsessed," he reasons.

"you spent the last four hours gushing because i asked what you like most about him," karl says, which is a complete overreaction but foolish doesn't argue because, to be fair, he had been rambling for a while. "i expected you to talk about his ass, not the way he bites his tongue when he concentrates."

"but it's so cute!" foolish defends, feeling his face go warm at the mere thought of his boyfriend and his adorable features. he imagines the blonde's tongue poking out between his lips while he works on assignments and projects and feels his heart soar. there are so many little things he loves about punz, he has lost count. "if you saw it, you'd get it."

"yeah, yeah," karl agrees, the pair of them giggling between themselves as they step out of the café.

until he sees him standing there, foolish had utterly forgotten that punz was going to meet him after work. it makes his heart grow warmer, with his love so prominent at the front of his mind and now the blond is standing right before him. he feels like an idiot with a crush all over again, a year in the past.

he turns to karl to try and hide his blush from punz. "i'll see you later," he says, holding his arms out and giving his best friend a firm squeeze when he steps into the embrace. "text me."

"i will," karl assures as he steps away again. he glances over at punz and offers him a wave that is only returned with a short nod. he looks back at foolish to say, "bye then," before turning to make his way towards his house.

foolish is forced to look at punz now, despite the fact he is still blushing like a tomato. hopefully, by now, he can blame his reddened face on the cold rather than his heart rolling about like it's trying to become an olympic gymnast.

punz offers him a smile as he steps over, but it feels almost blunt. it feels uninterested. it starts and then it ends just as quick and foolish is left wondering, once again, if he'd done something wrong.

his chest goes all funny and tight and, outside of his control, he finds himself quickly wondering what he can do to make himself more appealing. punz is going off of him and he needs to be better to keep his boyfriend for as long as possible, he has to.

this train of thought only leads to him greeting punz with a kiss, but he pulls back to see his boyfriend smiling more genuinely now, so he takes the small win as it presents itself. "my mom has made ramen," foolish says, feeling giddy all over again when punz reaches down to grab his hand.

it's starting to get overwhelming, the way he goes from so happy to so worried and then back again in mere moments at a time. he's starting to feel tired of all the big emotions pulling him in every which direction and leaving him dizzy with confusion. why can't things just be easy again?
