My name is Tolu Afelumi I'm a 15-year-old Nigerian girl, last year my parents had spoken about me moving abroad to a royal academy school, but I honestly thought they were joking, I thought they were joking so much so that I didn't pack up until now, which they had sent for the maid to help me do so. I'm not mentally ready, I think as I lay on my bed, that feels as though I lay on a million feathers. I wonder what it'll be like, how I would feel if I'd make new friends. I'm so used to my friends, they're like family, I even think Mama loves them more than me the way she showers them with love sometimes feels unreel.
I haven't even told Nell or Sandy yet, well, it's kinda not my fault. I didn't think it would happen, my soul feels like it's been stabbed with a billion swords....." T-baby get to the car we don't want to be late okay honey" said Mama "I'll be right there" I stood up from my bed and walked as though I had weights tied to my feet, I logged myself down the stairs and into the car, as we drove to the airport I called sandy and Nell and gave them the briefest lowdown known to man and at this point I was sobbing and so were my friends. I was only going to be able to see them during summer and Christmas, knowing this killed me.
On arrival at the airport I realized that I didn't know where the school I was going to was, so instead of asking my parents I wanted it to be a surprise, subsequently the name was announced "flight 151 to London" said the unknown airport voice and at this point, I am saying goodbye to my parents, my heart is beating out of my chest, I'm so confused, am I nervous or sad, either way, I'm going to miss mama and papa dearly, we hug and I join the queue to head the plane, as I bored the plane I am met with the most hostile smell, it was coming from a seated passenger he seemed middle-aged and already sleeping which I found weird because I thought we just boarded. Soon after l found my seat which was a business class window seat where I settled in.
I arrived at the London airport as an unaccompanied minor after 6 hours, feeling very lost and confused because I had never traveled on my own before, luckily the airport guide spotted me and led me to my school bus which was right outside the airport, at this point I'm utterly flabbergasted, I can't believe this all happened in the span of 13 hours, logically it's a long time but it feels like my life just flashed before my eyes. I'm here. So I might as well make the most of it. I stepped into the jet-black bus with fancy chairs covered in leather and a well-arranged mini snack bar. I stood at the foot of the bus in awe. I knew my parents were rich but I didn't know they could afford this kind of school. I start walking down the bus just when I feel the bus begins to move but I still don't know where to sit. So I think a random seat would be fine and just as I find one the bus rolls over a speed bump, therefore making me trip and fall. I'm in someone's arms they are soft, fair and they feel strong, oh no! I'm in a guy's arms "So do you want me to carry you to school ?" said the unknown boy "Oh no I'm so sorry, and thank you for catching me" I said anxiously.
"You're very welcome darling," said the unknown boy, ehn are my ears stung by bees or did he just call me darling? Anyway, I need to sit down just then I spot an open secluded seat in the back and I take it quickly before the bus tips me over again. Finally, we started to pull up to to big fancy bedazzled gate that was made out of gold amazed, a rush of pride swooped in like a knight in shining armor, and I thought I was going to tell Nell and Sandy as soon as I settled in. I can't wait.
