The next day, everyone set out for the abandoned part of the city, where it was said the mysterious and predictable mage kept his hideout.

"Erza, what is the name of the thief we are trying to capture?"  Lucy asked, walking behind her.

"His name is Lander."  She replied.  "His description is blonde hair, brown eyes, height: 5"6, and his clothing is loose white pants with gold lining and black boots, along with a black shirt with gold lining under the arms.  He wears a hankerchief on his neck, which is white and has symbols decorating the corners.  Finally, he has a symbol right in the middle of his forehead."  She turned, pointing to where the bridge of her nose ended, right between her eyebrows.  Her Heart Kruez armor clanked as she did so.  "Right here."

Everyone nodded, making sure to remember the details they were just given.

"The abandoned part of the city is kinda large, so I'm suggesting we split up."  Gray replied as they walked along.

"You don't need to be suggesting anything..."  Natsu muttered, looking the other way.

Gray narrowed his eyes.  "What was that, Furnace-Face?"

"Quit it!"  Erza exclaimed, not even bothering to look behind her.

I'm glad she stopped them from starting something...  Lucy thought with a sweat-drop.

"I agree with Gray."  Carla replied, her arms crossed as she walked along by Wendy.  "We should be able to find him quicker if we split up."

As soon as she finished speaking, they arrived at the abandoned part of the city.  It was kind of strange looking; it was like there was a line of people on one side and no activity whatsoever on the other.

"Alright!"  Natsu exclaimed.  "Let's do this!"

The split up was simple; everyone by themselves.

Natsu walked obliviously, his knees rising high as he rested his hands behind his neck.

"Natsu, maybe we should search through the buildings?"  Happy suggested, flying by his head.

Natsu looked ahead, suddenly stopping.  "What's that?"

Happy looked ahead, puzzled, and spotted someone's foot disappearing around the corner.

"Hold it right there!"  Natsu roared, starting at a sprint to race after the mystery person.

Taking the turn the person had disappeared, he spotted the dark silhoutte of a male running around another corner, and clicked his tongue in annoyance.  He ran after him, lighting his fists on fire in determination.  Happy raced after him.

Natsu began to gain on him; his features were starting to become recognizable.  But suddenly he turned, and disappeared down an alleyway.  Natsu ran faster, taking the turn.

And slamming into a wall.

With a small gurgle of a cry, he fell to the ground back-first like cardboard.

"Careful Natsu; there's a wall there!"  Happy mewed, floating above him.

"Don't you think I know that now, Happy?!"  He rubbed his head frustratingly.  "Where'd that bastard go?"  He looked up at the wall.

"He just disappeared..."  Happy murmured, looking at the towering brick wall with worry.  "Through the wall?!"

Lucy walked her way through the street, slightly creeped out by the empty buildings and dark alleys.

I gotta bad feeling...  She thought, clutching a hand near her chest in attempt to comfort herself.

She stopped, widening her eyes.

A man appeared through a wall; like it was a portal.  He had a sly grin on his face, and continued to run through the alleyway.

That is, until he spotted Lucy.

"Y-You're the bandit!  Lander!"  She exclaimed.  She suddenly scowled.  "You're coming with me!"

Lander had stopped; he had a strange expression on his face; all Lucy could make out of it was surprise.

"You-!"  Lander exclaimed, still frozen.

Ignoring his comment, Lucy pulled out Loke's key.  "I summon the gate of the lion; Leo!"

Loke appeared.  "Looks like we've found him."

Lander suddenly smiled.  "It is you!  Ahaha, finally!  I can now report to master after all this time!"

"I don't know what you're talking about, but be prepared to be beaten!"  Lucy exclaimed, pointing Loke's key towards Lander.  "Go, L-!"

Before she could finish her command, Lander had suddenly disappeared, leaving her to herself.

"W-What the?!"  Lucy exclaimed, taking a step back in surprise.  "Where'd he go?!"

"Lucy!"  Loke yelled, pulling her out of the way as a barb of earth jutted out of the ground suddenly.

They skidded to a stop on the other side of the alley, Lucy's eyes wide with surprise.  "D-Did that creep just try to-"

She didn't have time to finish, because more stakes appeared from the ground, flashing towards her in a frenzy.  Loke quickly grabbed her, carrying her bridal style as he jumped from side to side, moving backwards as he dodged Lander's attacks.  He jumped onto the top of a nearby building, and Lucy started to sigh in relief, but was interrupted by a long crashing noise.  Loke moved out of the way again; just in time too, because a larger and much more thicker spike abruptly sprouted from the ceiling, almost scewering the two.

When they landed on the roof of another building, they looked down to see Lander smirking at them.

Wait.

Was it Lucy's imagination, or...

Was the thief smirking at her?

Before she could double check, a laser of flames erupted from the side of a nearby house, causing an explosion to send Lucy flying through the air.

"I found ya, you cocky bastard!"

"Will you quit destroying everything!"  Gray exclaimed, appearing out of the fresh hole that Natsu had made.

"Not my fault this building was in the way!"  Natsu's annoyed voice rang out of the debris.

Erza appeared through the shadows of the alley, her face serious and perfessional.  "We've got you cornered, Lander."

Lander looked annoyed.  "Interference...how annoying."

"Annoying?!"  Natsu roared.  "You're the one who made me run into a wall!"

Happy sweat-dropped.  "Natsu, you kinda fell for that one.."

Lucy blinked.  Are they seriously getting side-tracked again?

"Natsu!"  Erza barked, and Natsu suddenly smirked, nodding.

"Time to take you in!"  Natsu exclaimed, lighting his fists on fire.  He brought his fist back as he charged, running low but with speed.  "Fire Dragon's Iron Fist!"
